Ignoring climate change will yield 'untold suffering,' panel of 14,000 scientists warns

Scary stuff indeed. Humanity faces a dilemma: the economic changes necessary to control carbon dioxide, methane and water vapor may require a reduced developed world living standard and a reduced global human population. Secondly, the increased luminosity of the Sun and plate tectonics are contributing to climate change/warming. The former may be questionably doable, but the latter is beyond our current technological ability. As soon as paying additional for a life style and/or limiting reproduction are mentioned, intransigence sets in. The economic concept of Public Goods applies to our living environment which is an cogent argument for non destructive use. Sadly, I have neither faith in or hope for any near term effective actions by what passes for the world's political leadership and national self interests.

Pianokris - I expect governments to take the science based expert advice they commissioned - in order to make informed decisions - seriously. That advice has been fundamentally consistent for going on 3 decades so far, the same when commissioned by Left leaning governments as when by Right leaning governments. I think it is essential that science not be altered to suit the political agendas of people who want to evade any responsibility or accountability for climate harms from emissions. Kudos to our institutions and practitioners of science that they continue to refuse to alter their advice because most governments do not like it. But then, pretty much all they do is documented and widely available to review and critique - the kinds of falsification and bias you imagine is... imaginary.

That many who lean Right refused to accept that advice and refused to contribute to solutions has helped create the political situation where those who are Centre and Left promote the actions they think appropriate without the Right's input. A case of "You care so much, you fix it" - the Right then complaining "not like that". I very much want those who lean Right to participate and help make the issue non-partisan - and that takes addressing the science based advice directly rather than making it about the unrepresentative extremists and responding to what they say and do instead.

Not only is the Left conspiracy view entirely fabricated, it also slanders climate scientists and the world's leading scientific institutions, as well as those who do lean Right and who take the issue seriously. There are some willing to break out from the Wall of Denial that has discourages Right participation - not nearly enough but some.

Taking the science seriously doesn't turn anyone Socialist or even require them to be anti-nuclear. The most effective actions are coming from nations with democracy, the rule of law and responsible free enterprise.

The Left Conspiracy view also slanders Police and Intelligence agencies, who are more than competent enough to uncover Socialist/Globalist/Environmentalist/Scientist-ist conspiracies to establish tyranny and oppress people - if such a conspiracy were true. Not renowned for their Leftist sympathies, they would not hesitate to expose it, with prosecutions and widespread celebrations. But it isn't true.

I don't think your claims of illegitimacy of decades of consistent science should go unchallenged. The Covid Conspiracy thing is no better. It isn't up to me but if you don't post here again that will be okay with me.

I note also that multiple observations satellites confirm real world impacts of global warming, from rising troposphere temperatures to accelerating global loss of ice sheet mass.

Free and open discussion, no matter how acerbic is always informative to those participating. As Winston Churchill once said "It is better to jaw, jaw than war, war". As for humanity's future, I'll leave that to Evolution while I do what I see as necessary preparations and reasoning.

There is no "we". Humans are not a one for all, all for one species. Global changes, such as those suggested in the article, are not viable. "We" need a paradigm shift and new ideas to make any real headway against global issues.
