One of those "if I ever got REALLY REALLY rich" dreams is to build a replica Jupiter II - full size, with stuff like this in here in which some of the switches do real/functional things around the house. Yes, it would be something more than something you walk around and oggle at -- it would be a place in which one could live.

(Not to be confused with one of those Futura houses)

I wonder where one would go to find a cotractor for such a thing????

Wayne

"1) Give no quarter; 2) Take no prisoners; 3) Sink everything." Admiral Jackie Fisher

Whatever I built, I would make sure the chosen ship has a large display screen so that I could install a TV screen. I guess I could modify the Jupiter 2.

There was a simple beauty in the interiors and the exteriors of the JII that still appeal to me.

Now, again, if I was in that ridiculusly rich category - I would also build a full scale Enterprise too, as well as a full scale Seaview.

Big

Wayne

"1) Give no quarter; 2) Take no prisoners; 3) Sink everything." Admiral Jackie Fisher

I think a Borg tactical cube would suit me just fine . . .

TPTB went to Dallas and all I got was Plucked !!

So many people, so few recipes !!

Let's clean up this stinkhole !!

I think "The Starlost" Ark is about big enough for some walking around room...

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

Thanks for the link to the Lost in Space videos...I had no idea these existed. Some of the CG vids are better than the original series special effects which were all done with miniatures. I especially loved the one with the J2 landing in the guy's back yard, what a hoot!

Yes, I must admit I am a hopeless Lost in Space fanatic, have been since it first aired in '65 and I was all of seven years old. When Star Trek came along, I remember watching some of it, but most of the time it was over my head. I did not start to appreciate it until I was older and it was already in syndication. But LIS was magical to a seven year old and it still has a place in my heart to this day.

I too have fantasized about building, and living in, a full size replica of J2. I have even doodled some blueprints for it and stashed them away somewhere for when I win the lottery. My concept is to build it as it appears landed in most episodes where the lower deck is not seen from the outside and would have to be below grade level. To accomplish this, I would excavate a circular hole 8 to 10 feet deep and pour concrete walls to serve as the enclosure for the lower deck and the footer for the upper deck and outer hull, which would be constructed of plate steel. The lower deck would actually be below grade and constructed like the basement of a house.

I think it is physically impossible to build both the upper and lower deck within the package of the actual hull and maintain the proper scale, because as someone here noted, the inside of the ship is much bigger than the outside. This is because the original pilot episode, (when the Jupiter 2 was called the Gemini 12), there was no lower deck. The lower deck was added later, along with Dr. Smith and the Robot. In fact, I have heard one of the cast members note, (Bill Mumy I think), that the sets for the upper and lower decks were actually located in different buildings, and when the characters would exit a scene using the ladder or glide tube the scene would be continued sometimes days later at the other location.

Oh well, just some musings from a die hard LIS junkie, I could go on like this all night.

The elevator from the upper deck set basically went down into a hole in the ground. I read somewhere that one time, cast members put up a sign down there procaliming it as "Professor Robinsons Wine Cellar", as Guy Williams was apparently a wine lover/expert.

Clearly, you are correct that what was shown in the series is inconsistent with the externals. In addition, I don't think too many people would be comfortable in the cabins on the lower deck.

My solutions (that will never be implemented unless I win a big lottery, or invent that magic brick that produces power) are to either scale the who thing up quite a bit, and have some more of the house that is "behind the scenes" - or to have something that is an extension, or an underground portion of a more conventional house.

I do very much want something that has the same flashing lights and details of the original set, but then again, I want to be young again too.

Wayne

"1) Give no quarter; 2) Take no prisoners; 3) Sink everything." Admiral Jackie Fisher

Just saw on This Week @ NASA that the original B-9 Lost in Space robot
("Danger Will Robinson") is now on display at the KSC

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Thanks for the cool illustrations, here's another at:

http://www.jupitertwo.com/

If you look closely, you can see where all of these drawings have cheated on the scale by making the whole ship bigger to fit everything in. The giveaways are the depth of the airlock, (huge) and the depth of the control panel...way too deep.

I wonder if there is a website that shows plans for a multitude of ships?

I wonder how much a full scale replica* of various SciFi craft would cost? Like a J2, Enterprise, even a Seaview would cost? As close as possible to a blueprint true vehicle, with furniture / visually correct equipment in EVERY compartment.

I believe the replica of the Titanic done for the movie was over 100 million, and I bet there was not correct stuff in every room.

*realizing that things might require modification to deal with external internal issues, and you would need some external supports for part of the Enterprise etc. You probably would want to have it in a hangar do some kind too.

Wayne

p.s. Yes, this is entirely childish and silly

"1) Give no quarter; 2) Take no prisoners; 3) Sink everything." Admiral Jackie Fisher
