If you can, you should take an opportunity to see Mira near it's peak brightness. The star is a pulsating variable that is invisible at the minimum (Mag +8.6 to +10.1), and ranges between +4.9 and +2 at maxima, with a period of ~ 332 days. This morning, it was at least +3.0; Next time I see it, I'll be prepared to make a more specific estimate.

It's below and to the right (after midnight, when I meteor observe) of the "Pentagon" at the top of the Constellation Cetus. At 9:30 PM, it's almost due right. There's always a +4 magnitude star closer, then Mira's about twice as far away, coming and going.
