My take on the forum disaster.

I think it's absolutely horrible that it happened, but sh*t does tend to happen so... It's pretty bad that nothing could be recovered. I also lost all my posts which I'm not happy about.

Honestly, I don't like this forum software. It blows. VBulletin is a million times better and more robust.

I'm a little angry and definately disappointed but none-the-less I still appreciate the people who frequent here with interesting & informative things to say.

The good news is that the "new" forums are much less lagged out.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I really, really, really miss the "first unread post" function.

VBulletin might be more dependable, but I'm sick of VBulletin, every forum that i go to uses VB! it's nice to see that a forum uses it's own forum system for a change, although failures like this are unacceptable.

In my opinion, they used this as an excuse to “clean house”. There is no doubt that the archived threads still exist somewhere (or did exist at the time of the failure). Face it, disc space costs money, especially the volume we were using. Also, there were a lot of threads that had degenerated into name calling and petty infighting. Can you think of a better way to clear out the basement and start over (as the admins indicated)?

Our Solar System must be passing through a Non Sequitur area of space.

The_TEN..... Then make your own copies of what you write. It isn't the responsibility of this site to do anything to save what anyone does.

It does not require many words to speak the truth. Chief Joseph

Which means something is very, very wrong with the world. ; )

If someone with very limited computer knowledge - such as Yours Truly - can bring back old threads, then obviously Uplink's administrators could. I think you're right that they've decided this is simply not in their interest to do.

So I'll do it. : )

(About to re-post what I've recovered of an old thread to this forum - wish me luck!)

It might have been me that was the straw on the camel's back.

I dunno, but calliarcale could not have been very pleased when she read ActivistModerate's (my recently created alter-alter-ego) last post just a few hours before the crash. I challenged the mods to do a better job - she was editing on my thread improperly, and I proved it - and even put a link in the suggestion box.

If I did, um, sorry, everybody! I'm sure I learned a lesson, if I can just figure out what it is.
