although Zhang refused to reveal other objects the spacecraft would take into orbit.

hmmmm... weapons? I wouldn't be too suprized if the Chinese (and the USA and other countries) already had some sort of weapons in LEO.

I consider on orbit storage of cruise missles (conventionally armed) to be a military neccessity. The ability to de-orbit a cruise missle just over the horizon for a potential target and take it out with in 2 hours or so would be very useful. How long does it take to get a sub or destroyer postioned for a rapidly emerging threat? Even a B-2 can take several hours to fly to a stand off location as the airbase is in Missouri.

TPTB went to Dallas and all I got was Plucked !!

So many people, so few recipes !!

Let's clean up this stinkhole !!

"I consider on orbit storage of cruise missles (conventionally armed) to be a military neccessity.'

The last thing I want is a couple dozen countries thinking this way. I think the opposite. The necessity is that we don't turn space into a new level of military escalation. You might feel comfortable with the Iranians or Americans or North Koreans or Chinese, etc. being able to take out a target in 2 hours. I don't. I sure don't look forward to 50 years from now, when the Pakistanis, Indians, etc, have these 'weapons' in orbit....conventional or not.

As one of the more liberal posters here, I thought my occaisional forays into hawkdom would be rather well received......

TPTB went to Dallas and all I got was Plucked !!

So many people, so few recipes !!

Let's clean up this stinkhole !!

Everytime I see news from the Xichang Spaceport I get angry at myself. I was there, in the damn city, there were organised tours, but somehow I couldn't find the freakin' agencies selling those tours. Grrrrrrr. So close yet so far....

Anyway, spacedaily reported that the flight might be moved up to september. Haven't got a link, but you shouldn't have trouble finding it.

Lets try not to turn this into some neo-con/lib spaceweapon thread, but keep looking how the Long March lifts two taikonauts into orbit. Thats much more relevant and exciting

I doubt it can pushed up to September
If IRCC it took two months for all their tracking ships to get into position. So they either now have sufficient ground based stations, or were able to send the ships on their way without being noticed. Or aren’t flying till November.
Didn't they open recently a ground tracking station in Namibie. That should replace one of the ships stationed in the south atlantic?

ah here is something: China operates a space tracking station in Namibia, and utilizes South African ports of call to support space-tracking ships.
from click here

from spacedaily:
China has also had to compensate for the loss of its station in the Pacific island nation of Kiribati, which was dismantled shortly after the Shenzhou 5 mission. As such, tracking deployments of ships could be an ambiguous guide to an upcoming flight.
