Yes, I think you are on to something, it wore intelligence exactly like it wore one of its aquired shapes. If brute instinct was the tool of the moment, intelligence would have vanished as claws vanished when it wanted paddles or wings.

I don't know about the BEST alien, it was certainly the scariest by far and away. Though I don't know how plausable it was that it react so quickly, it seems like something that MIGHT evolve.

Talking about the quickly bit, think of how quickly some of the inter-cellular information transfers happen, or how swift a think goose-bumps are, or a blink.

And no more thought involved, in blinking, blushing, histamine reactions, etc, than possibly the entire "Thing" would need to exist, eh.

Its movement and the like, could be as simply as photophilia, and its reaction to "life" merely the twitch of a venus-flytraps jaws.

Scared of that particular monster. Your neighbour smiles, and the smile widens . . .

"I know you gentlemen have been through a lot, but when you find the time, I'd rather not spend the rest of this winter TIED TO THIS &%$#@!ING COUCH !".

All those years since i saw that movie, and do you know what.
I clicked on your link, and as it spooled up I opened another window to do something else.

And that music, made me break into a sweat, in an instant!.

I am serious, sweat ran down my sides, and if someone had of said something behind me in that instant, they were a dead man for all money.

lol

That heartbeat music is just too unforgettable.

Actually, that's what I was originally searching for. But, when I came across the LEGO version, I couldn't resist.

I also came across this: The Blood Test scene. (I think this has the ending line from the couch too.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dborLPj-IZo (Warning, graphic violence/blood/gore/and other cool stuff.)
I put on my robe and wizard hat...

Wow. I have not seen that for low these many years, half my life ago, but I remembered it so perfectly clearly, I mean virtually word for word, POV for POV, every single thing.

Obviously stark terror is a marvelous imprinter.

"I'll show you what I already know".

And how the first one he tested stepped back and lowered his brows and looked implacable, evil . . I remember thinking "He is one, he is going to attack, oh no oh no oh no oh no".

I never after that, went to see a scary movie until I went to see that latest pommy zombie movie with the fast zombies.

I just noticed both versions of "The Blob" are available on my Comcast On Demand.
Perhaps I'll watch them back to back during the Holiday weekend.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Possibly one of the best "whodunit" scenes ever. It wasn't Col. Mustard in the Library with the Candlestick. It was Palmer in the day room with a... bg tooth-filled squishy looking whatsits.
I put on my robe and wizard hat...
