Congrats! PhD is a tough path to walk but well worth the effort. My wife watched my defense and I think it scared her out of ever doing it, lol. You are on the way to something I once considered doing but then got cold feet about (advanced degree in Astronomy, that is...at the time the job market was ugly).

Yes, it's ugly but that's because many scientists are not concerned about how they look.

Is that in Ames, Iowa? Long time ago I was also accepted for the graduate Astronomy program at Ames, Iowa state. I was all excited. But eventually I swtiched to engineering graduate program at another univ. Good luck kid. With a PhD, please prove that 50% of deep space current theories are wrong. lol. <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> Earth is Boring </div>

That was indeed Iowa State in Ames. Good place. Liked it alot. Wyoming was my next choice (and next offer). Good up and coming department, and the WIRO telescope... But Irvine got my attention. It's a bigger department (with equal quality of researchers), doing more of the stuff I like. While it doesn't have a large telescope to itself, it does have access to Licke (basically as much time as a grad student wants) and a grad student has a better chance of snagging time on keck. They're also growing (as much or more than Wyoming) as they hired 5 new astronomers in the last year or so. I think the University of Houston (where I go) is not a good place to study astronomy.... bah. UT has better opportunties... but that's too far. The engineering college is inaccessible over here. I'm either majoring in technology, art, or biochem.... (in that order of particular interest)... astronomy is interesting to me for the theoretical aspect, but not so much the engineering required to get real measurements.
