Saw it yesturday and its not as bad as I thought it was going to be.

In fact there is some cool action sequences, Shame the science is so dodgy it wouldn't stand up to pre-school scrutinary but then perhaps its unfair to judge this film on this.

Perhaps just saying that it is entertaining is the best way of judging it.

Also unlike a lot of films I've seen recently it didn't seem half an hour too long.

Edited title of thread because I was bored. 05 - 09 - 04 @ 16:04
"All God does is watch us and kill us when we get boring. Maybe I will watch it then, once it comes to HBO. I'd heard the film was awful.

Since I'm already paying for all the movie channels on digital cable, a movie has to be quite appealing to me in order to justify the extra expense of watching it in a theater.

I love going to the cinema, a group of 5 normally go together once a week.

This week we went to a Riddick / Dodgeball double bill, Dodgeball was as funny as anything I've seen in a while, although I don't think it will appeal to everyone.

Hellboy finally gets a release this week. Don't know why they have delayed the release so long, it plays into the hands of the pirates. Its been on Region 1 release for months, so you can get a decent rip for £4, The cinema costs £6.50 (£3.50 on tuesday with student card.)
"All God does is watch us and kill us when we get boring. I like going to the cinema too, specially seeing films with special effects that make up a large part of it,but watching it on literally the HUGE SCREEN is very enjoyable!

I have to admit that this film struck me as being, well shall we say, rubbish.
I might get it out on dvd,but even though this is the sort of film that stands on its special effects,I don't think I'll feel like I've spent my money wisely on this one!

PS I'll waste it on predator vs alien instead!!!

Thats kinda why I went on a Tuesday. Its cheaper

But its not that bad a film. Yes its a bit silly and the science doesn't stand up, but this is one of those films where that doesn't seem to matter.

Also you get to see Vin Diesel put his swimming googles on only to take them off at least 20 seconds later at least 40 - 50 times.
"All God does is watch us and kill us when we get boring. Thanks Flynn, now you've got me doubting again. I was convinced it was horrible and now you say it's at least bearable. Well, I am a sucker for space movies and special effects. I like seeing a lot of space ships just fly around a planet for a bit. Makes me very happy!

So, wait for it to come out on DVD and rent it? Or are the SFX big screen material?

***

It wil look better on the big screen. As I say you will just have to suspend you scientific mind and "go wow thing went bang".
"All God does is watch us and kill us when we get boring. lol.

I saw Hellboy weeks ago. I gotta say, it is VERY cool indeed. The actor really really really really nails the feel of the comic hellboy. And somehow, they do really cheesy things , straightfacedly, and get away with it.

The Father figure reminds me seriously of John Hurt.

Anyway, you will enjoy that movie a lot mate.

I'll probably go Tuesday.

Gives me something to do, and take my brother along, (hes getting a bit fed up at home) like I say its been on Region 1 dvd release foe weeks, I've been offered at least 5-6 copies of it, but its just not the same.

Ron Pearlman is a very underated actor.
"All God does is watch us and kill us when we get boring. Ha, HA, finally went to see this flick, and I really enjoyed it. I went in with NO expectations whatsoever, just a large bucket of salted popcorn and two Grolsch beers...it was FUN! The story was very, very bad. Every sci-fi cliché known to man was used: the renegade turned rebel, the Kwisatz Haderach-like witch ( surprisingly played by Judi Dench) and a real prophecy (although not ancient; just 30 years old). The acting was deplorable. Everything was pretty much cheesy, conversation wise, although 'get my armada of this planet' always works for me! (--that must be my fascist instincts trying to find a way out... )

Anyway, the SFX were great, the best I've seen in a while. Vin Diesel just is cool when he slaps everyone around and about the place. There were some funny one-liners, but they didn't overdo it. Some of the action was well done. The girl looked really nice in that outfit.

A switch-your-brain-off-and-enjoy kind of film. I'm quite curious as to what part three of the trilogy will bring. Riddick is a better film than Pitch Black. So they have improved.

As for the science? There was no science. Sound in space, that sort of stuff. They never had science in mind when they made Riddick. They were thinking about Star Wars. Not quite there yet though.

***

It makes me miss "Mystery Science Theater 3000".

I can just imagine the robots and Joel/Mike in silhouette, relentlessly poking fun at the movie.

We should have an SDC party sometime where we get to all watch a cheesy movie and bash it. Sounds like a blast.

as i understand it this is film 1 of a trilogy for which pitch black was a just a foreward.

Also there is an animated special coming out to fill the gaps between pitch black and this film.
"All God does is watch us and kill us when we get boring. Pitch black was a good film, but call me a cynic,to me it's lets go back and use something that worked,so I can cash in on a trilogy and make a mint!!!

I don't have to act much either because I'll get the special effects to take up half the film!

Okay I'll take it back, but funnily after talking about this movie on here,a mate came round and said I should go and see it,wasn't too bad he said and carried on from pitch black.
So I thought ok lets go,and it had finished at the cinemas,so I don't know if it rated all that well out here because it didn't seem to run very long!

Your a cynic! But your probably right, especailly after the awfulness that was xXx.

Friend of mine has the game on the X box and he reckons that you start off in the game before he has his eyes operated on in prison which i think wildly contradicts the film which suggests he lied to her about having them fitted in prison and in fact was born with them.
"All God does is watch us and kill us when we get boring. Aetius...Mystery Science Theater 3000?

Sorry man, never heard of it.

I forgot the title of the cheesiest sci-fi flick I've ever seen - or maybe I successfully surpressed it - but it was about a spaceship with the last remaining forest. Every tree on Earth had apparently died...hmmm. I think it was made by hippies on drugs somewhere in the Seventies. Cheesy Seventies music, you know the really sugary stuff and cheesy everything else.

Skylark...WHAT?!?....NO BEER? The horror...the horror...

***

We don't either, but can you imagine drinking beer and trying to hold off going to the toilet for 3 and a half hours during LOTRs
"All God does is watch us and kill us when we get boring. Is "Silent Running" the name of the film you're thinking of?

I wish that a television station in the Netherlands would show "Mystery Science Theater 3000". I think you'd enjoy it.

In both Pitch black and Chronicles riddick mentions he's had his eyes "Shined".

It's consistent.

--------------------SaiphMOD@gmail.com -------------------

"This is my Timey Wimey Detector. Goes "bing" when there's stuff. It also fries eggs at 30 paces, wether you want it to or not actually. I've learned to stay away from hens: It's not pretty when they blow" -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

It's only just started over here but they've actually built dining tables into a cinema complex instead of the chairs.
Instead of going to the restaurant and then coming to the movies, you can do it all in the same place!

We can't take a beer into the movies here though, and unfortunately I think it has no chance of being allowed!
