Russia planning to go reusable in 2026 with new Amur rocket

"Indeed, the Amur bears a remarkable resemblance to the Falcon 9, down to the stabilizing grid fins on the rocket's first stage "

No surprise really. Has anyone looked at the "Russian" space shuttle? Amazing how it looked identical to the U.S. Space Shuttle.

Oh well, this is still good for them and good for the planet. I wonder if Elon gave them his designs?

The stabilizing grid fins were invented by Russia regarding the AA-12 Adder missile developed by the Russians in the 1990's. The Buran shuttle could land without pilots; Its Energia launch platform could transfer 32 tons to the moon and would have been as reusable as the Buran if it wasn't for the collapse of the Soviet Union. It appears that Musk learnt a lot from his trip to the motherland before he started SpaceX.

Aerodynamics are aerodynamics. The Russian Shuttles were not identical to US space shuttles but did look similar. However the spaceshuttle was designed for a specific task so it would make sense that if someone where trying to do that same thing they would arrive at the same forms.

That said of course if you show a picture or demo something for an engineer and ask that engineer to figure out how it works/reverse engineer they are going to do something very similiar. Why invent a new way of doing something if you have an example of something that works?
