S/F Movie Help

Black and white. I'm guessing 50's.<br /><br />There's a large science lab/observatory on the ledge of a mountain. Main actors are an older scientist, his niece and her finance/hero. Near the climax of the film, an adjacent mountain reveals itself as a gigantic alien monster that looks like it had an eyeball for a body with octopus tentacles extending outward. Sorry, that's all I've got. It's been tormenting me for decades. Anybody got a guess what the name of the movie this is? It's not "It came from outer space" but the alien looks kinda like it only the size of a mountain. <br /><br />Please, someone end this tormenting. <br />
