She wasn't as "good" as WESLEY CRUSHER !.

And PLEASE. I will not try to tell you, which men are attractive, 140 000 years of evolution fits you to judge that so better than I , as to make comedy of any and all attempts of mine. And my actions don't need the help, to seem comedy.

So take my word for this. That "woman" is goddamned ugly, just surprising how ugly. I should not be surprised if it was REALLY a bloke in disguise.

And YES, a person above has said he found her attractive. But what I know, that you don't, is he is a South Islander, and their standards are . . . flexible.

And men would NOT have followed a person like Janway, she had the charisma of a rock.

And thats the last i will bother yu about it with my opinion, cause we ought to TRY to humour one another, eh?.

(one of us is clearly not all there!. )

So only men can recognize an attractive woman based upon evolutionary imperatives?

If a woman can't judge what is attractive, why should she stand in front of that mirror every day?

And if we are to stay friends I would appreciate it if in the future you wouldn't resort to swearing to make your point. It's kind of a turn off.

"I have never let my schooling interfere with my education. " -Mark Twain

I have done some scratching on a story idea that was a cross over between ST:TNG, Lost in Space, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea (and was working in the TV series Batman, yes there is a lot of Irwin Allen in there).

I found great potential in interactions between Dr. Smith, Will, The Robot and Data.

Wayne

"1) Give no quarter; 2) Take no prisoners; 3) Sink everything." Admiral Jackie Fisher

Janeway *is* truly beautiful, Ms. Marie. She is strong, brilliant -- and when she lets her hair down, she is all-together lovely. And she's cute, too, when she's kicking some Borg butt or telling Q to go to hell.

As regards your Will Rogers quote: when I was in high school, I actually had a classmate who winkled on an electric fence. He survived the experience -- and at my 10th high school reunion, I was pleased to learn that he had somehow managed to get married and have children.

Just goes to show: it pays to *listen* when one's high school chemistry teacher is discussing the properties of electrolytes.

Just tell the truth and let the chips fall...

my barstard twin brother got me a good one on an electric fence.
He took a zap, and i laughed. It was a cold day, and he WANTED me zapped too.

I blush to point out how dim I am, but when he said , putting his hand close to it " Hey, the wire is emitting heat " I took the bait.

"Is it?" *puts hand on post, carefully advances finger to wire.

at which point he gives me a shove.

Never leaked on one though. Killing thistles with a backpack, I DID walk through a fence, turn, and slip the pump handle between the wire and the gatepost once. Jump how i liked, i couldn't get free, and the zaps meant I couldn't make my fingers work long enough to under the pack harness. I finally leant into it hard enough to break the handle off the backpack, which my elder brother made me pay for, but I would have paid twice to get free.

CATTLE die if they get caught in a fence, 10 minutes is enough , stops their heart. And twenty or so zaps really ruined my day. = [

I can laugh now, but it wasn't funny then.

When Janeway let down her hair, she was lovely. Those beautiful dark eyes -- the luscious hair.

The only time I've ever actually envied Q was when he was in the bubblebath with Janeway. You know, I think they must have cast her deliberately because she reminded one of Kathryn Hepburn.

I can't bear being seen naked. I'm not exactly a tiny woman. When Sophia Loren is naked, this is a lot of nakedness. Sophia Loren.

"You know, I think they must have cast her deliberately because she reminded one of Kathryn Hepburn."

You know, I've occasionally speculated along that very line. I think she most especially evokes Kathryn Hepburn's role in "African Queen" -- another great story about a determined and beautiful lady who finally accomplished what she set out to do after a long, perilous journey.

Anybody who hasn't seen it should check out the movie. My favorite scene is the one where she pours Humphrey Bogart's liquor into the river.

I would add, however, that the actor who played Chekotay bears zero resemblance to Bogart.

Just tell the truth and let the chips fall...

"I feel ill."

It's OK, Master Flynn. Give it 20 years, and you'll have an entirely different outlook.

If you somehow find yourself looking at a Voyager DVD in 2025 (or whatever the medium may have morphed into by then), one of the first thoughts that will go through your head will be, 'What an all-together beautiful woman.' And you'll be saying it about the Janeway character, not Seven of Nine.

The next thought to go through your head will be, "Wow. That old fart I figured was experiencing early dementia 20 years ago in the space.com forum was right after all! I wonder if he's still alive?"

Of course, I will still be alive (assuming all goes well), as I will only be 65. And so, too, will Kate Mulgrew, who will also be in her mid-60s (give or take) -- and will still be all-together beautiful, except moreso.

Just tell the truth and let the chips fall...

You know how women look lovely when the are sleeping?. All innocent, snuggly, SILENT?.

I would only think Mulgrew was good looking if I could see her SLEEPING. You know, the LONG sleep?. Dirt nap?. Pillowed in a paddock, tucked into a flower bed?. I tumesce as i picture it.

And no matter how long I live, I will prefer the Seven of Nine silhouette to the janeway one.

I wanted to be Kathryn Hepburn when I grew up because she was so stout-hearted.
Can you picture anybody else dumping Boggies booze and getting away with it? I can see them trying and Boggie taking a swipe at them and it turning into an amorous embrace yada-yada.
Can you picture any other actresses of her day being a starship captain? I mean, of class.
Not like Barbarella. That was a one-woman bedroom of a starship, not that I didn't like it for itself too.
Which rising star could handle it now? Jennifer Lopez comes to mind but that's about it. I'm not too sure about her either.

I can remember walking as a child. It was not customary to say you were fatigued. It was customary to complete the goal of the expedition. Katharine Hepburn

Anyway, the answer is NO, no woman really looks the part, in Command of a Warship.

I am sorry. I ABSOLUTELY know there are women far better suited to it than I, i have worked for and with many examples. HOWEVER, I have NEVER met ANY women as capable of command, as the MEN I know that are born leaders.

It is just human nature, all the feminist complints in the WORLD won't change it.

You once get exposed to a real male leader, trained in his craft by having SERVED all the positions he now commands, EXCELLED in them, as women NEVER CAN excell in the war trade, and you yourself will admit that a woman captain is only ever a second best choice.

There will NEVER be a state, or world, that choses to entrust its safety to a woman in command of its warships. Sure there will be sops to the feminists, and command given to women in times of peace, as we see now.

When the Amardas come against you, you put your A team on the line, and that will be men, till the end of time.

If women were better, they would have been chosen already, nothing but winning counts, when your life is at stake. not only can't they be better, or even as good COMMANDERS, they can't fulfil the LOWER war positions as well either.

JUST FACT.

There are no women, on the All Blacks team. There never will be.

Joan D'Arc? Boadicea?

Seriously I think their tendancy to enjoy a good gossip undermines them a bit . I do know a couple of women in positions of power and they are very organised and can carry things out to the letter.

I'm not sure if they have the capacity to do a Nelson or a Rommell, perhaps thats because they never had the chances?
"All God does is watch us and kill us when we get boring. Only one word for Mae West: Bodacious!

Or maybe a second word, too: Sassy!

And possibly even a third and a fourth word: Brilliant! Beautiful!

I'd take a voyage on Mae West's star ship any ol' time -- although if it were Galaxy class, she'd likely spend most of her time in Ten Forward.

Just tell the truth and let the chips fall...

There is of course 1 Sci-Fi female captain with class.

full name />Turanga Leela
age />unknown
job />Ship's Captain
voiced by />Katey Sagal

Leela is the only person from her species that lives on earth. She was brought up in an orphanage and attended high school where she was a bit of an outcast for having oneeye and went dateless to her prom. She took up kick boxing and other similar sports to make up for the lack of friends. Whether she attended college is unknown. She later got a job as a fate assignment officer and after a while met Fry while she was assigning a career to him. He convinced her to quit and she was then offered a job, along with Fry and Bender, on the Planet Express delivery crew where she impressed Professor Farnsworth enough for him to make her captain. She still has problems with men and often gets jealous of Amy's popularity among the opposite sex. She has a soft spot for Fry but is unsure of anything further than that, due to Fry's clumsy advances

Okay so the bio's a little out of date

"All God does is watch us and kill us when we get boring. ? She is a science officier, and a good commander of a ferry.

She is not a warleader, and will never be as GOOD a warleader as a man that has had the same training.

If they WERE, then after 100 000 years of warfare, don't you think we would have found out by now?.

Don't you think that if they were even AS GOOD at commanding soldiers in time of war, SOMEONE would have proved it?. I would have thought if they were even 99% as good, someone somewhere would have had an army, the soldiers ALL available males, for their attacking strength, and the "Woman leaders" making the decisions?.

Where has this happened?.

Someone?.

No, they are not, will never be, as capable as men, of commanding in battle.

Here is a fact for you. Without the confidence that their commander can DO the things he asks of them, soldiers are never going to trust the commander.

First,
Joan Crawford? Instant mutiny.
Lucille Ball? Harpo Marx.
Mae West? Only on an R&R cruise.
Elizabeth Taylor? Resorts to guile too often. Close.

Second, Never say never, let alone scream it.
A fact, huh... Is that a fact?
Women are just beginning to become all that they can be. We have yet to see what they can do.
