You misinterpreted what was said.<br /><br />It is referring to Mars' motion against the backround stars.<br /><br />Also, that article referred to 2003.<br /><br />The situation this year has different timing. Up until November 15th, Mars moved to the east, through Taurus into Gemini as is normal.<br /><br />Beginning then, from our perspective on earth, Mars revesed direction and is now moving back into Taurus until the end of January, then it will resume it's eastward motion. By March 4th it will be back in Gemini.<br /><br />The reason for this is that the earth moves faster than Mars, and during this time we are passing between the sun and the planet.
