You misinterpreted what was said.

It is referring to Mars' motion against the backround stars.

Also, that article referred to 2003.

The situation this year has different timing. Up until November 15th, Mars moved to the east, through Taurus into Gemini as is normal.

Beginning then, from our perspective on earth, Mars revesed direction and is now moving back into Taurus until the end of January, then it will resume it's eastward motion. By March 4th it will be back in Gemini.

The reason for this is that the earth moves faster than Mars, and during this time we are passing between the sun and the planet. Since we move faster than Mars, it's position against the bacground stars appears to move backwards.

This happens about every 1.8 years or so.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Wasn't this also part of the proof behind the realisation of the Heliocentric Copernican system?

This effect is also viewable with Jupiter & Saturn, though to a much smaller degree
due to their hugely greater distances than Mars.

Andrew Brown.

"I suddenly noticed an anomaly to the left of Io, just off the rim of that world. Well yes and no.

The pre Copernicans created circular mounts for the wanderers, imposed on the circular firmament.
So, they had an explanation, it just wa conrived and messy.

You are correct that one the Heliocentric model was established, and Kepler's Laws understood, it all makes perfect sense, and was part of the proof at the time.

I though about mentioning that, but was afraid of data overload to the OP

But the Krell forgot one thing John.
