My secretary's son is a prodigy. This kid, only 11, has built model rockets for the past 4 years. He even designs the things. He's won prizes and had one of his rockets recently recognized by the US Air Force as a notable achievment. (Some Air Force sponsored regional competition.) His current model has a digital camera in it and will record pics with altitude measurements and all other sorts of data. He's a smart kid and thinks that anything that flies and shoots fire out of it's rear-end is an instrument of God.

My secretary wants to send him to Spacecamp. Currently, the tuition for Spacecamp is around $750 or so for the week. While she wants him to go, paying that amount may be a burden for her. (Yes, I've considered helping but don't think it is appropriate to offer before other avenues have been exhausted.)

My question: Is there an Outreach program, Awards/Grant program or competition program that could help to offset the cost? He's a brilliant little ******. His goal is to join the Air Force and then, most likely, move on to NASA. (I think he should be an engineer but what do I know? heh heh)

Any help on info is appreciated. I'll be scrounging around for more info over the next couple weeks myself.

I put on my robe and wizard hat...
