If Klingons don't decorate, how do you explain Worf's "Miss USA" sash?

In reply to:

Artistic license. If you're going to get picky, then why not complain that the odds of the ship actually being over the landing site are like 0. Go outside and look up -- what do you think the odds are that the ISS is overhead?

The ship had to be overhead because of range limitations with the transporters. I will, however, agree that it was a lucky break (too lucky) that "overhead" was close to where Saavik and Spock where.

Will Pittenger
Add this user box to your Wikipedia User Page to show your support for the SDC forums:
{{User:Will Pittenger/User Boxes/Space.com Account}}

In reply to:

I guess your universal translator is working intermittently. I heard everything in English

Everything? You must have the wrong version. The DVD I watched had mixed Klingon with English freely. Ditto for the tape version I watched 10 years ago.

In reply to:

Frankly, the first movie is one I'd rather forget.

It wasn't great, but it was better than V. Don't let Shatner behind the camera in a Star Trek movie.

In reply to:

Don't blame the crew for the writer's mistake.

I'm not. However, if the events of II were real, crew members, including Chekov, might get court martialed. I blame the writers for that mistake.

In reply to:

There were 433 members of the crew in TOS. Not all of them were seen in every episode. Let's assume that Chekov bumped into Kahn off-screen.

Meyer mentioned that as his excuse in his commentary on the DVD. However, some book authors seem to have Chekov still in the academy at the time. Besides, he and Sulu would have shared a shift. Furthermore, since Sulu was supposedly in line for a captaincy, making him Reliant's first officer only makes sense. Chekov could still be part of Enterprise's crew with Saavik at the helm rather than Navigation. (Chekov was also security officer in the past. So, that could have been his job.)

Will Pittenger
Add this user box to your Wikipedia User Page to show your support for the SDC forums:
{{User:Will Pittenger/User Boxes/Space.com Account}}

Some might say not to let Shatner in front of the camera either.

What's wrong with vanity plates? I have HOPENPJ on mine -

Hope for the children's cancer therapy dog (she's golden retriever and L A Z Y - sort of like me!)

N - for "and"

PJ - its my nick and MUCH better than "Princess Fiona" (a certain stalker of my own used to call me that!! lol)

/sigh on Shatner - I grew up with Barbie and Kirk... too bad the actor has turned into just another Hollyweirdo.

Actually, what I love about Bill Shatner is what I also like about Fabio. They're two guys who are both icons (admittedly to a much smaller extent in Fabio's case), who don't take themselves too seriously and have fun with their image.

Besides, Boston Legal is one of the few series I enjoy watching with my wife. Shatner and Spader are like TV magic together.

The genuine Hollyweirdos are probably the ones behind the camera, who actually think that I might find a movie about child rape entertaining.

My copies of Star Trek 2 and 3 are in storage after a house move, so maybe someone can confirm this?

In Star Trek 3, there is a lot of damage to the Enterprise's engineering hull's starboard side, just below the interconnecting dorsal. This can be seen in the photos of the Enterprise and the Bird of Prey facing off. However, in Star Trek 2, all the damage was to the Enterprise's port side. I recall a shot of the Enterprise reaching Regula 1 and stopping, and there is not damage to the starboard side!

Paul
--
http://www.paullee.com

A line from an old STXY song comes to mind:

"too much time on my hands"

It disturbs me to no end that I understood every refrence in this thread, and that I almost whipped out my "Nit Pickers Guide to Star Trek" to continue with all the goofs in the movies, and series. Now I see why poeple make fun of us trekkers. We are geeks!

I've never been to a Star Trek convention. I have been to DragonCon though. I suppose that makes me a nerd of the highest order. heh heh

But, I wouldn't dress up or anything. That's just too far out of my comfort zone.
I put on my robe and wizard hat...

We just had one here. I didn't go but some people who wanted to see what it was like had a good time.

Dominic Keating was f-this and f-that. Then said he hoped there were no kids there.

I asked what Marini Sirtis looked like. "Old!"

I think John Billingsley was getting spanked.

And Tim Russ said he took the Star Trek job so he could make money to support his music. He played a little music.

I liked all of the cast on Enterprise. I think they did a great job even though many more traditional ST fans didn't seem to like the show. I never was a fan of Marina Sirtis's character on TNG. But, I'm a huge fan of John Billingsley and his character in Enterprise. He did an outstanding job with a very unique character. Personally, I think he stole most of the scenes he was in, hands down. Tim Russ's character on Voyager wasn't appealing to me at all. Too wooden. They would have done a much better job, if they needed an alien, by putting some other race in there. An Andorian, Tellerite or something else with a weird forehead. They could have thrown a Vulcan in as a side-character or made him a Vulcan ensign and written whatshisnut out of there.

Gratz on your convention, I hope you had a good time.
I put on my robe and wizard hat...

So do you have a homemade uniform?

actually, it was tailor made by a costume guy I know.
Tailor made? I thought there are stores where you can buy Starfleet (or Star Wars or Babylon5) uniforms pre-made to common clothing sizes.

Will Pittenger
Add this user box to your Wikipedia User Page to show your support for the SDC forums:
{{User:Will Pittenger/User Boxes/Space.com Account}}

I have two:

One from TOS era, blue (of course)
One from Wrath of Khan era.

I also have a decent collection of memorabilia. Plates, model kits(most still in the original "unopened" condition), action figures, blueprints, film cels, etc.

My best friend got his degree in Radio, Film and TV broadcasting. For his senior project, we built a set (modelled on TOS) in his father's barn and made our own (admittedly rather cheesey) Star Trek movie.

I am (probably with the exception of Will P ) the biggest Star Trek geek on this forum.

You gotta put your cheesy movie on Youtube.

Dude, that crappy thing is over 20 years old and 2 1/2 hours long. Plus, since he did all the scripting...it sucks.

In reply to:

probably with the exception of Will P

You must have me confused with someone else. I have no uniform, ship models, or much else. I get tired of watching episodes and other stuff if I see them too often.

Will Pittenger
Add this user box to your Wikipedia User Page to show your support for the SDC forums:
{{User:Will Pittenger/User Boxes/Space.com Account}}
