Okay, two questions.

First, concerning the occasionally-mentioned return of human waste products in the MPLM. I have to ask ... don't they dump that stuff in the Progresses, or do they actually recycle the .... er .... 'head recepticles'?

Second, I've watched a fair bit of that computer graphic screen showing the Orbiter in the three axis. Discovery seems to move all over the shop, orientation-wise, relative to the direction of flight. Has she actually been basically in free drift since departing the ISS? I was under the impression that they always flew tail-first to protect the windows, leading-edges, crew module?

What's the go, experts?

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

Just in time for landing... My launch pics, if anybody cares...
you can get to the originals (large ~4.5MB jpegs) if you click on the intermediate images.

http://gallery.merrilldigital.com/thumbnails.php?album=6

They are not as good as some of the ppl's here, but I think they came out decent for my first try at a shuttle launch. Also, If you look in the water on a few (IMG03361, IMG03362 even has 2) you can see dolphins in the water.

If you look close on the last one (you may need to look at the original), you can see the SRBs falling away:)

Enjoy.

-eric

0903 GMT (5:03 a.m. EDT)

CALIFORNIA BOUND. Continued instibility in the weather off the Florida coast has prompted entry flight director LeRoy Cain to throw in the towel for a Kennedy Space Center homecoming of space shuttle Discovery. Today's landing has been officially diverted to Edwards Air Force Base in California where skies are clear. Touchdown is expected at 8:11 a.m. EDT.

Yeah, it might've been after dawn if she landed at KSC. Oh well sh*t happens.

I'm hoping all goes well! at least if it crashes no one on the ground will be holding there heads from chunks coming down from this death trap of unproffesional engieering. i wonder if that was some of the reasoning for going too california.
