Whoa-Who! Way to go guys!!!!

I'm so glad that I was wrong, waking up this morning I was sure she wasn't gonna launch and we were going to have to wait till the next window. I was watching the launch on HD NET so the resolution was great. I did notice a couple pieces of debris, it was hard to tell how big they were, but I didn't see any strikes. It was kinda hard to tell, but it looked like there was a small piece of foam missing from the external tank, but so far she looks like a clean bird!
Don't let your sig line incite a gay thread ;>)

I'm stuck at work watching the 30sec delayed web cast. My wife just called and said our 5yr old daughter woke her up this morning by running through the house yelling "Saturday! Shuttle Launch! Saturday! Shuttle Launch!". She was glued to the TV all morning, hanging on their every word. Thank goodness they went to replays after MECO or we'd never get her out of the house!

Do you notice that a woman had her shawl trimmed off when people celebrating after ET separation in the firing room?

Watching in HD I saw what looked to be a pretty big debris event shortly after the shockwave ended. It was on the opposite side of the tank from the orbiter though. Did anyone else see this?

Yeah a bit of an initiation ceromony I think, probably usually a tie.

Perhaps S_Guy can shed some light on it for us.
"All God does is watch us and kill us when we get boring. First we have lightning stikes on 39B
Then we have Hurricane Ernesto
Then we have an APU problem
Then those damn annoying ECO sensors act up

....but could any of them keep Atlantis down.....HELL NO!

ATLANTIS RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!/b>

I saw something fall away from the topside of the tank in one of the launch replays. I think we are talking about the same thing. I'm going to have another look at the ET replay to see if I can see the two incidents noted by an SDC story on the website this morning.

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

They have a short video of the one I was talking about posted at nasaspaceflight.com now in the current STS-115 thread. This link should get you pretty close to the right post.

Seems most dont care about it these days, its just another shuttle launch.

Apparently something did hit, but they dont feel its a problem. Fell off when the shuttle was far enough up not to effect it (im sure there is a techincal term for it)

We may not have gone back to the moon, or even beyond. But the ISS is a marvelous achievement

Just saw press conference in Houston on the debris.

Apparently small stuff was detected late in the flight so it shouldn't have had much effect on the heat sheild due to lack of air pressure at those altitudes.

But we will see. See what the ISS sees on the heat sheild.

"SCE to AUX" - John Aaron, curiosity pays off

Unfortunately, they become Kentuckey Fried Chicken, when launching. We have before and after FOD walkdown. We pickup everything that is not suppose to be around the Pad.

In reply to:

Downlink TV from the orbiter must use the Ku Band ant. so ascent live TV is not possible.

Would you expect this capability to be part of the Orion design, similar to what the Russians have on Soyuz?

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

I hope so too. Unfortunately I can't agree with the Astronauts on this one, though I do understand their reluctance.

At the very least I hope it will be available internally to you guys at KSC, and available to us in the various camera angles package immediately after each launch.

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

There are several others here who also give us the inside view, and we are grateful to them all. We here at SDC know much more than the average person, even those who care a lot about the space program.
I'm sure glad I found this place!

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Hear! Hear! A fantastic job by the entire shuttle team. The world and the future is in your debt.

Jon

Whether we become a multi-planet species with unlimited horizons, or are forever confined to Earth will be decided in the twenty-first century amid the vast plains, rugged canyons and lofty mountains of Mars Arthur Clarke

I'll third that.

I was just looking for something to watch whilst waiting for the boiler to kick in so I can have a bath and I was flicking through the Documentry channels and its more endless repeats on Discovery Wings and it got me thinking they really should go for shuttle coverage during missions. Even 10 minute updates every couple of hours (longer for launch and landing) would be good.

Oh well hundreds of channels and I'm going to end up watching the A-Team
"All God does is watch us and kill us when we get boring.
