Aaaah, that was beautiful to see. First launch I've been able to watch live in a long time. If it launched yesterday I wouldn't have been able to watch it. It was waiting for me, ya, that's it.

Oh, and happy bday spacester.

Fiance was bombarding me with questions through this, the one I wasn't sure of was:

How long does it take from the de-orbit burn until wheels stop?

Is the res crappy on the sattellite feed too?
Yep something came off the tank, pretty small though.

Nasatv online was slow, must've been about 30 sec's behind. I looked at the TV and STS was in the air, computer was showing it still om the ground. So I stayed with the online so I didn't miss anything.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Wanna see this site looking like the old SDC uplink?

Go here to see how: SDC Eye saver

Anyone remember the site that shows what time it would pass overhead at various locations?

It's a NTSC signal e_b_m, so it's definitely not as good as it could be. Hopefully they will go to hi-def in time.

SoE, de-orbit burn to wheels stop is in the order of an hour to an hour and a half I think, dependent on the track back to KSC.

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

Well one is here , but will not show the shuttle for a little while since it's orbit is changing.

The target is the ISS, which is listed.

For me, with all the delays, there are no visible ISS passes for the duration of the mission

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Watching on TV, CNN, MSNBC, FOX all covered, but they talk too damn much, so I keep on-line NASA TV in the background.
For me, online is a 45 second delay, but I can at least hear what is going on, instead of ignorant anchors blabbing.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Oh hey, thanks.

I am not sure that I have ever been more proud of NASA than I am right now. Just SUPERB decision making through an incredibly dramatic week of critical and complex decisions. Mike Griffin's NASA performs!

It was so weird, this launch. Over the last two months, I kept getting this feeling that this bird was gonna go on my birthday. So I checked it all out and saw that I was flat wrong. But the feeling would NOT go away. Very weird. Then events transpire and things change. When the Saturday window was first announced, I just had this feeling all week . . . anyway . . .

The nicest birthday present I could ask for! What a Beautiful launch!

Congrats and thanks to SG and everyone else invloved!

PAL has it's own problems.
Until you get to GBR, it's all messed up by the compositing.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. I wonder why, since it's a British show, shouldn't it be in PAL?
Maybe a better market.

Anyway, we're drifting off-topic here.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. CNN managed to destroy the shuttle launch experience by talking over the NASA narrator the entire time, with the exception of a small window from T-30 seconds to T+2 minutes. When the flash evaporator problem appeared, the anchors were still yapping.
As all commercial TV broadcasts do.
I've been known to scream at the TV "SHUT THE F^%*^%*%^ UP!!!!"

That's why I keep NASA TV on in the background, to hear what's really going on, despite the delay.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. It makes me sad that we haven't done more since the Giant Leap For Mankind. I also think about what might have been had I accepted the Anapolis appointment many years ago. Interestingly though, my Son is getting very interested in such things at a tender age. Maybe he will have the gumption to push the envelope. He says he is going to Mars and giving the changes in the air, his age could be about right.

The Disenfranchised Curmudgeon

http://tonyplank.blogspot.com/

tplank.

Great Pic.

MeteorWayne

Wouldn't mind so much if they had the foggiest idea of what they were talking about. I remember after Columbia the program I was watching saying it was thought to be a rocket engine had blown up. The radio yesterday was refering to this mission servicing the International Space Center
"All God does is watch us and kill us when we get boring.
