I'm trying to identify a SF short story I read. It takes place on a world which IIRC was some kind of failed colony. The world's seasons are so extreme that the population has to take shelter in caves at the north pole during midsummer. They don't have any advanced technology anymore.

mgc0,

My track record is not good on this sort of thing, (in fact, I don't know if I ever have made a hit), but your description reminds me of a book sequel to the movie, When Worlds Collide. They made it to Zira and found domed cities where they could live, as the weather, because of their orbit, was unbearable at times of the year. They also found the Russians made it to the planet as well. But I can't think of the name at the moment.

Hi hraccts

The sequel to "When Worlds Collide" was named "After Worlds Collide", I managed to pick up a copy a long while back.

Or maybe I should say the book from your first post that you could not identify by title.

But if you have a plot line there, maybe you could WRITE your own version of it. That has been done a few times I hear.
Good idea! Maybe if I write my own version the name of the real story will come back to me.... and if not, it's still good practice!
