IIRC, the odds against being hit are billions (four?) to one.
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will to strive, to seek, to find and not to yeild. - Tennyson

Odds of being struck by a meteorite:
about 1 in 10,000,000,000,000

Wayne

"1) Give no quarter; 2) Take no prisoners; 3) Sink everything." Admiral Jackie Fisher

Anyone ever watch Northern Exposure? A gal had many boyfriends and all had died. One by a meteor. What are the odds. Strange sense of humor.

I wonder if it is less that 10 trillion to one now - as humans spread out to cover every corner of the globe. Last year one went through the roof of a New Zealand house. The year before someone was apparently killed in India and a number of people injured as a large one hit a village (though I never saw confirmation of this). And of course there is a genuine famous case (perhaps the only case in history) where a woman was struck by one coming through the roof of her house in the US.

(In another 20 years half the world's population will probably have video cameras - so I guess we'll see a real time strike on reality TV soon!!!)

Choose "Desert Meteor Caught On Film."

Desert Meteor

Likely fake, but well done regardless.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

I heard somewhere that you’re more likely to be hit by a meteor than win the lottery

Is this true?

If so how much more likely am I to be hit by a meteor than win the lottery?

Curious and morbid minds want to know.
Well; it isn't the meteors that are gonna get you; it's the meteorites! Meteors burn up in the atmosphere.

You are about three orders of magnitude* more likely to hit the lottery than you are to be hit by a meteorite.

* "Order of Magnitude" simply means times 10; so three orders of magnitude would mean 10 X 10 X 10, or 1,000 times.

If you're talking about the odds of being killed by a rock falling from space, then it's between 1 in 200,000 and 1 in 500,000. The odds are dominated by asteroid impacts, which though rare kill a lot of people. Small rocks have not killed anyone in recorded history.

These odds are less unlikely than being killed by a Tsunami, and in case Americans think this is unlikely to happen to them, scientists believe that the East Coast is going to be devastated by a Tsunami caused by the collapse of the La Palma volcano in the next few thousand years.

so many meteor/ites hit our planet. They account for thousands of tons of metals falling from space into this earth but, I only heard a rare few stories of accidents/misfortunes caused by these alien stones. So the chances are very, very remote.

you can win the lottery 4 times in a month but never be able to crack the electrical code for a BMW 750il key. price? 250,000$..

pain is inevitable

suffering is optional

There was a marriage in Australia, and dady of a bride was hit and killed by meteor. Not to mention of various talks from history. I also remember on demolished car somewhere in US.
It's not as rare event. Especially because there are so many right places to strike.
