What sf novel would I like to see made into a movie?

I think you could make a great weekly series out of Asimov's Foundation series of books.

The series has a timeline of about 600 years and is chock full of intrigue and plot twists. The final book (in the chronology of the Foundations' histories) was left open ended as well. I'm certain that was done to keep the door open for another book.
"2012.. Year of the Dragon!! Get on the Dragon Wagon!".

I'm a little surprised that nobody has considered (read the SciFi Channel) Michael Moorcock's Elric Saga or Fred Saberhagens Lost Swords series as potential mini-sreies material.
"2012.. Year of the Dragon!! Get on the Dragon Wagon!".

Oooh, Elric of Melnibone. Good choice.

Come to think of it, Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser would be pretty interesting too.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

I'd also like to see one of Jack Chalker's series serialized. Either The 4 Lords of the Diamond series, or the Well World series (Go Nathan Brazil!).

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

There is an old S/F movie on now, Fahrenheit 451. It was made in 1967 and is a little slow, (It's British, I think). But it was a good tale from Issac A. though. It would be nice if they could make a good tale with some speed in it though.

But I do like the way it ends and how they did show it on the show. Another slow movie I have seen was "1984". Another tale about censorship and controling peoples thoughts and actions. But I did like the book though.

Or was that Bradbury?

Thanks for the info on Covenant! I'm on book one of the Last Chronicles now, having read the others years ago. I also like George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series but my all-time favorite is David Eddings' "Belgariad" and "Mallorean" series, along with the Belgarath and Polgara books.

While they are fantasy and not science fiction, those would make a great series of movies.

Vidar: Not exactly a novel, but I think this could be basis of an interesting sci-fi movie. http://xfacts.com/x1.htm

Then I would think you will be interested in this upcoming movie:

1Anunnaki

One novel that struck me as having enormous cinematic possibility was Arthur C. Clarke's "Rendezvous with Rama" and I was really happy to learn that it was being turned into a movie.

It is set to star Morgan Freeman and to be directed by David Fincher ("Seven"). The problem is that the official website opened in January 2001 and states that the movie opens in 2004!

Welcome to development hell...

"There was a book or series of books about flying Cities in Space. Force field domes were put around the major cities of the world and they took off leaving Earth to a small handfull of farmers and Greenpeace types.
I can't for the life of me think of the authors name."

It sounds like the "Cities in Flight" series by James Blish. I haven't read them yet, but they are in my standby pile.

That's the one. The flying cities used a drive system called a "Spindizzy" drive, based on part of the Dirac equations. The story involved New York City and it's interstellar travels...

A very good series.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

Not really sci-fi, but to ancient Egyptians a little magic is essentially the same thing, right? I think Wilbur Smith's 'Warlock' would make a good movie. Hmm, might be a little long, better make it a mini-series.

Son is reading StarFist - sounds interesting - any of you read the series?

It seems like a good idea, based on the fact that the bible says:
“… and God said, … let us make man in our image. … in our likeness.”
It indicates that there are much more to a possible creation than Genesis describes.

The source to Genesis has definitely much sci-fi potentials.
I read a few of the Starfist series. Pretty good especially if you like military scifi. Fairly smooth read as well.

There's some good responses to this thread but I think the question is a bit flawed. Most of the novels mentioned are just too big to fit into two to three hours of screen time to do them justice. I think novellas are much better candidates for conversion.

So in that vien I'd nominate Diamond Dogs. It'd make a dark and twisted movie to be sure but I'd like to see it.

Jose
www.memetherapy.blogspot.com
