What was your favorite SF special effects of all time?

yeah, I was almost fizzing with glee at having been quick enough AND first.<br /><br />They have never made a Count of Monte Cristo that was a tenth as good as the book. Though the book was all down hill after the escape from the castle, eh?.

It would probably take 10 movies to do Monte Cristo justice. What castle, Chateau d'If? I don't think there was any downhill in the whole book: Villefort's "orphan" son, the guy at the signal tower, the hashish, Heidee, the price of food in the catacombs, etc., etc., etc.... The whole thing seemed good to me. <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> </div>

Oh just so, but I never was able to forget the images of his struggle in the Chataeu, his making friends with the old bloke, the teaching of all the worlds graces, AND languages, etc.<br /><br />Top of the tree, to me. <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" />

The most impressive effect I remember was the nuclear attack in Terminator 2. About a million times better than the fakery in T3.

I just watched 'Aliens' again and see it has plenty of mention here. Alien and Aliens are such brilliant movies and the special effects are remarkable. The way the aleins emerge from the walls and the fight between Ripley in the loader and the Queen alien were truly remarkable pieces of film making for their day. Masterful movie. Still find it hard to fathom how they went from one of the best sequels ever made to two of the worst (i.e. Alien 3 and 4). <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> </div>
