Israel has nuclear weapons only for self-defense. Curfews? That's hardly a justification for terror attacks.

And there never was an "invasion".

If Israel has nuclear weapons for "self-defense", why not the rest of the world? Quite hypocritical if you ask me. And no invasion by Israel? Gee, I wonder what they're fighting about then...

"If Israel has nuclear weapons for "self-defense", why not the rest of the world? Quite hypocritical if you ask me."

Nonsense. Israel is threatening no one, that's the difference. They have to keep a nuclear deterrent because they're surrounded by countries who want to destroy them.
There is absolutely no justification for countries like Iran to pursue nukes because they're not threatened by anybody. If Israel was out to destroy them they would have done it already, i.e. they would simply have nuked Teheran.

"I wonder what they're fighting about then..."

Me too.

Iran is threatening no one yet the US wants them to obliterate their weapons.

On the 2nd point it was sarcasm.

"Iran is threatening no one yet the US wants them to obliterate their weapons."

Iran threatening no one? How about Israel? I have absolutely no doubt that, given the chance, Iran would start a new holocaust.

"On the 2nd point it was sarcasm."

You don't say!

Arobie,

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my questions. I am trying to find ways to unify the advocates of space exploration so that public support for the Vision ininiative will not be fragmented into opposing camps. The public is not well educated on the issues regarding space exploration, and the romantic appeal of Mars is often a divisive factor in trying to establish immediate goals for the space program, I believe. Also, the media tends to pick up flashy space exploration concepts and give them the majority of the coverage. The Moon does not seem very exciting compared to Mars, so Mars gets the publicity, irregardless of the consequences.

Every time progress in space exploration is delayed, it means that more will have to be done when progress does occur. If we delay long enough, we will have to start from scratch, learning everything over again.
The secret to peace of mind is a short attention span.

Dark Energy,
Too bad you trashed your own thread.

Or was that your intent all along?

Our Solar System must be passing through a Non Sequitur area of space.

Well, technically speaking it was me who 'hijacked' this thread by pointing out the radical content of the website he linked to.

So do you think you'll be a private astronaut, or will you work for NASA?

I'm not entirely sure yet. Private industry will have many flights occuring compared to NASA which has very few. Though if this vision pulls through, which I will do everything I can to help it, NASA is going to the Moon.

A fear of mine is of going into NASA, and either not flying or flying only once during my career. The flying regularly that will occur in private industry would be great. For NASA, if I were given that chance to go to the moon, that would also be great, well actually it would be AWESOME!

Also NASA is the explorer of space while private industry will be the exploiter of space. I want to explore!

Pros

So for NASA, I would have the possible opportunity to explore the Moon.

For private industry I would have the opportunity to fly regularly.

Cons

For NASA, the MtM plan is not guarenteed yet. If it was, I still might not get the opportunity to fly.

For private industy, I won't get the opportunity to go to the moon, and I am not exploring anything, just taking up tourists or something.

So, I am not sure yet. I will have to wait and watch to see how things turn out.

Halman,

To me, it seems that the basic framework of the plan has already been decided upon. I don't think you can work out a space plan to unify space advocates anymore.

You have to go with our current one. You will need to explain how the Vision for Space Exploration is best which *shouldn't* be too hard. Going to the moon first is the best way to go about things. The economic benefits of developing it HUGE as you well know.

About the media, what you said is so true.
