I don't know about the timeframe, but I know that if interstellar dust is a problem, the Von Braun here is pretty screwed when it flips around for its braking thrust. Also, I see we're using nuclear reactor powered ion drive as an excuse to put 1950's style fins on things again... <img src="/images/icons/laugh.gif" />

It kinda blows the myth that robots are superior over humans when it comes to space....

I think a good idea for the shield would be for:<br /><br />1.) the shield to be able to be removed<br />2.) the ship pivoted around and reattached to the shield (with the thrusters pointing out through the hole it was attached to the front of the ship with<br />3.) the ship pivoted around once more so that the new thruster-shield combination is facing forward, then commence retrothruster sequence
