Well, I'd like to say that I read about this new exotic twisted topology tokomak that seems to have been successfully tested, but even they say commercial fusion is decades away(from the sounds of them, they sound like conventional scientists under=stating things to stay on the safe side). From what I read, I'm confident that if humanity can get through the next few decades, we should make it in some form or another. Even in a nano-era, nuclear fusion powered magnetic field protection from space radiation is needed.

I'd also note that with quantum computers coming around quickly enough, nuclear fusion should come soon enough.

Overal, there is definit reason for optimism in humanities future in space and science!
