Speaking of SNL, I can just picture Telfrow bouncing on his toes, waiting for the right moment, then, like Ladka, he sings, Here I come to save the DAY!!!

And how many different places are you going to post that link today, GRR8? Just here to spam?
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will to strive, to seek, to find and not to yeild. - Tennyson

Jon, "Groundwater has been suspected on Mars for decades, ever since Mariner 9 and was assumed before. Hoagland did not predict it. He predicted where and why it would be found where it has been found.

http://www.enterprisemission.com/tides.htm

http://www.enterprisemission.com/right.html

"Because of our specific prediction more than six months ago in our paper, that Odyssey would find exactly this anomalous (beyond our model) water distribution, we can state categorically that these findings constitute absolute, inviolable confirmation that our model is correct. It also proves that the work done by Palermo and England is correct, since the water distribution corresponds precisely where they have found what are now proven water stain images.

What was stunning was that neither Boynton nor any members of the assembled press, either because of ignorance or timidity (is there any American institution that has fallen into a greater state of disrepair than the Fourth Estate?), made the slightest note of the fact that the water -- inexplicably for the established conventional models of Mars evolution -- was distributed on two such prominent features of the Martian landscape. This does not change the fact that there is nothing -- absolutely nothing -- in any conventional model that can account for this distribution. The only explanation that fits the data is our Tidal Model.

Even after they had hyped the data to be presented as a "whole new Mars," and "tremendously exciting," not one of the scientists bothered to explain just why any of this constituted a "whole new Mars" --

--and nobody asked!!!!

This astounding lack of curiosity by

Ah, I get it now. You're pointing out that Opportunity's finding of a fossilized and now extinct ocean has nothing to do with Hoagland's tidal model that predicts the presence of subsurface water at Opportunity's landing site. Except for the fact that there isn't subsurface water at Opportunity's landing site, at least within a few hundred meters of the surface. It all makes perfect sense now.

I'm convinced. I intend to become a Hoagland believer. I need to study up on his theses, and I'll report back with all sorts of similarly insightful commentary. I enjoy a taste of the absurd on occasion.

That "whole new mars" quote can be found in the December 2003 (I think) National Geographic article about Mars exploration. The article discusses what the change in perspective/understanding is, and why it is exciting. You can find it in your public library. It's not in the secret files! Cheers!

It's not just Telfrow that's thinking:

In reply to:

And how many different places are you going to post that link today, GRR8? Just here to spam?

At this rate, GRR8 may drive Tony the Tiger to find a new catch phrase.

I still think GRR8 is Hoagland. Even if GRR8 isn't, he's close enough to be indistinguishable.

Mere precedent is a dangerous source of authority.

-Andrew Jackson (1767-1845)

There isn't any use. RCH's blog is just his attempt at luring people in to join his forum and pay him money. It appears he's so paranoid that he requires prospective members to cough up an idiotic fee every month to access even more useless garbage in his forums. I suppose he even tries to authenticate the identity of his users so only the intellectually underpriveleged can view his "revelations." Of course, by definition, that makes it much easier to snag them with "woowoo'isms."
I put on my robe and wizard hat...

Of course.

Curious thing...not that I'm implying anything here.

Look at GRR8's username. R for "Richard," and "H" is the 8th letter in the alphabet.

Hmmm. If we want to speak of conspiracy theories and suchlike.

GRR8: "GRR8's Really Richard Hoaglund" or something?

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."
