Well, I think the odds are good. Last I heard, there was a 70% chance of acceptable weather conditions. So I think it's a good bet.

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff." -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

Shuttle_guy just posted in the STS-117 thread:

"There is a possible (probably) launch delay due to a Main
propulsion System quick disconnect concern..."

Keep your eye on the "STS-117 (13A) Update" thread for the latest.

If there are no weather or tech issues, the 8th is a good bet.

My borrowed quote for the time being:

There are three kinds of people in life. I read or heard somewhere the odds of launching the first day just in general were very low, like 11% I want to say. I hope I am wrong, but I'm betting it'll be 2 or 3 days later, it seems like it always is..

If the weather pattern tomorrow is anything like yesterday I have some doubts. The thunderstorms were scattered and a couple were fairly intense.
Bob DeWoody

The weather pattern is not like yesterday. See the post in the STS-117 thread where I covered the reasoning for the improved forecast.

To summarize, with the ridge moving offshore and north, the winds will be from the south, not the southwest.

Therfore the sea breeze front will set up further west, and drift to the west once the thunderstorms pop.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Your basing your estimates on what you see on the puter. I live 30 miles west of the launch pad and like I said if tomorrows weather is like yesterday not today. Anyway I've lived here (Orlando) long enough to know only a fool predicts central Florida's weather more than 3 hours in advance for something like this. Personally I hope it goes, but I won't make any plans around it.
Bob DeWoody

No I'm basing my estimates based on the devoloping meteorological situation that should provide southerly winds, not SW winds as yesterday. That allows the Sea Breeze front (where the thunderstorms form) to penetrate further inland.
Of course, no forecast is perfect.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. With the price of gas what it is and the fact that I own a 17 yr old Camaro I'll have to wait until I'm pretty darned sure it's going. I've been over there for at least 20 of the launches and have only missed a few of the rest from home. There's one I wish I had missed as it is still burned in my memory.
Bob DeWoody

*shivers* Let me guess: you saw STS-51L?

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff." -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

Yes, it was a perfectly clear sky and I was outside watching it with a few co-workers. When the 2 solid boosters split and that big ball of smoke developed I turned and told them it had just blown up, which no one not even me wanted to believe. We went inside and on TV was the confirmation of what I had said.

It isn't lookin real good for this evenings launch right now but like I said in 3 hours time it could be clear enough.
Bob DeWoody
