Okay so I'm not the worlds biggest Dr Who fan but it is kinda payback time for all those cool shows and movies you have over there that I have to wait ages to see here.

Nice simple story to get us started nothing too taxing on the mind and not sure if its on purpose but the special effects do have a certain Cheesiness factor to them. My main point is that Ecclestone makes a great Dr.

Not going to spoil it for you so I shalln't tell you any more, but I'll leave you with a little cool dialogue.

Rose "If your an Alien, how come you sound like your from the north?"
Dr "Lots of planets have a north"
"All God does is watch us and kill us when we get boring. Nah. In New Zealand, and Australia, all the dreggie people are herded into the "Western" suburbs for some reason. It is always true mate.

Did you see that latest round of rioting firebombing dropkicks from Sydney?. Where they said the cops chased some car thieves until they died in an accident, so for three nights there was chaos and riot?

Typical westies.

Fine. Gloat about it. See if I care.

avaunt: fear not, New Zealand will be getting the good Doctor. No word on when, but at least you've got a broadcaster already signed on! All we've got in the US is the Sci-Fi Channel thumbing their noses at it, saying that it's "lacking". (Lacking? That's rich, given how much terror can be struck in the hearts of movie fans everywhere by the phrase "a Sci-Fi original picture". Some of their TV shows are okay, but their original movies are atrocious. And the good series they run are generally produced by somebody else.)

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff." -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

Until they can it, like they did with "Above and Beyond" if i remember rightly.

Ah well, Prime is a problem for this house. It's a new, small channel, with weakish line of sight transmitters, and Auckland has 28 volcanic cones. So we don't get really good reception, unless there is a rain storm. Also, something to do with the Sky decoder, you can not tape Prime.

I will watch it of course I am one of the faithful.

Coolness! I'll have to give that a listen tonight. My computer at work makes everybody sound like Munchkins due to some weirdness with the sound card.

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff." -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

This seems like a good place to post a bit of random Who news.

A second season and a Christmas special have both been commissioned for "Doctor Who" now. No actors have been committed to it yet, but that's really only a matter of time. (The tabloids are trying to sell the story that Eccleston is quitting, but I find that doubtful. He seems to be having a wonderful time in the role.) I'm a little leery of a Christmas special; it could get silly all too easily. But then, it might be something like the 20th Anniversary Special (better known as "The Five Doctors"). That could be very nice indeed.

The first season will be released on DVD over the summer, with a big boxed release in time for Christmas, but now dates are starting to come out. The first two no-frills sets will be released on May 16 and June 13. Alas, these will be UK releases only. American fans like myself will have to find a region-free DVD player, and the MPAA has done it's very best to prevent the sale of those in this country. (Nevertheless, my old Powerbook can be switched over to play other regions. It's just limited in how many times it can switch. I don't mind making it my dedicated British DVD player. )

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff." -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

I'll still believe it when they hire somebody else for it. You wouldn't believe the level of rumor-mongering that goes on around Doctor Who. It's unlikely the Beeb would misreport it, but stranger things have happened in the history of Who in the media. It seems to be a show particularly prone to misreporting. I'm not sure why.

Anyway, even if he does leave, we've got 13 episodes with him. That's a lot more than Paul McGann got.

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff." -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

It looks like there are some pretty good props and cgi effects coming along in the future.

And the accents, luvly!

And Rose, mmm!

Just watched Episode 2 "The end of the world"

Again, I'll not give any spoilers.

Ecclestone still great, Piper a little annoying but bareable. Nice story (better than last week), some nice CGI some looking a bit dodgy. Could of done with 34.7% less cheese.

Show Rating 7/10

Show Rating for Rose 5.5/10

Not too impressed by the spoiler for next weeks episode.
"All God does is watch us and kill us when we get boring. Hey its only payback for the year or so we have to wait for shows to air here after they have aired in the states.

Its also payback for Fox killing all my favourite shows. Blast you Fox.
"All God does is watch us and kill us when we get boring. With the first episode they had to put a lot of work into the characters since they were essentially starting from scratch. Season 27 of Doctor Who isn’t consistent with the previous season. Its essentially Season 1 of the 2nd Doctor Who series. Eccleston makes a very good Doctor. He’s playing it and its being written for the part of a Time Lord not a human with a TARDIS.

The second episode is very good. I would say an 8 out of 10.

Calli
Time Lady, oh my goodness I just got that. There are ways for those of us in the states to view the new Doctor Who series, depending on how fast of a connection you have. Not that I want to endorse piracy but since its not being shown here I really don’t see a choice.

http://www.bittorrent.com/
then
http://azureus.sourceforge.net/
then
http://www.torrentspy.com
I guess they know that if BBC America shows it they won't be able to command that big a sum off anyone else they sell the show to. Sad state of affairs really.

I'm sure it will all get sorted out soon. Perhaps everyone should email the Sci-Fi channel, the more interest people show in it the more likely they will buy the rights.
"All God does is watch us and kill us when we get boring. "since its not being shown here I really don’t see a choice."

Same here. The media moguls should wake up to realize what they see as a piracy is just themselves missing a business opportunity. iTunes works, launch iTV and iMovies! I'd happily pay something like $1 a pop for premium quality tv-show episodes.

Bittorrent is the ideal workhorse for this sort of distribution. Trackers would provide billing information. There could be an incentive to get people seeding, rebates if you seed a lot. RSS-feed to automagically inform and start downloading new episodes.

The best way to battle p2p piracy is to make it even easier to use commercial p2p.

Here in New Zealand, I've heard we wont be seeing Dr Who untill arround December on "Prime". Sorry couldn't wait that long so have been downloading it though Azureus/TorrentSpy. So would love to thank our UK friends with HDD/DVD recorders who are so willing to share. Seen "Rose" - Billie Piper isn't she a singer? "End of the World" - good CG effects. Downloaded "the unquiet dead" yesterday and yet to see it.

Now I am old enough to remember some of John Pertews later episodes + Tom Baker and this one I looks far more professional. Helps
with more mature production values. I think they should bring back the scarf, but its good that K9 has been scrapped. And I hope the darleks are a bit souped up.
