Hello everybody,

I’m studying Engineering Product Design BSc and I’m half way through the placement year (3rd year of a 4 year course). The company I’m working for is cool (www.design-me.co.uk) but I don’t get to do any 3D computer modelling or animation, which is part of the degree.

I’m rapidly forgetting what I learnt of 3D Studio Max, Rhinoceros and ideas. So my plan to rectify the situation is to start producing 3D modals and renderings of space craft! I would like to do just some simple rocket engine parts at first then moving on to ambitious projects like whole engines or complete space craft.

Does anybody have links to (or could email me) decent rocket engine or space craft plans / engineering drawings? What I’d ideally like, is engineering drawings showing a minimum of three views e.g. top, side, front and back.

It would be great if someone could help, I will keep you updated on my progress!

Thank you

I would welcome plans of different levels of detail because the three programs I use are for different types of modelling e.g. Graphics and animation, surface modelling and solid modelling.

I’m thinking of making computer models of the ISS myself, not got further than thinking about it though. The best drawings I have come across so far are given below.

http://www.spaceref.com/iss/element.drawings.html

http://cph.ing.dk/tema/iss/samling/1r/zvezda-grafik-jpg.html

http://cph.ing.dk/tema/iss/samling/1ar/zarya-grafik-jpg.html

Hope they help .

I don’t know of the standard CAD/drawing programs to use, do you have any suggestions?
Thank you for the ISS CAD files Nacnud!

I think the Soyuz one would be a cool one to start with.

“I don’t know of the standard CAD/drawing programs to use, do you have any suggestions?”

- I think it depends on what programs you can get your hand on. Also if you know people who can help you out if you get stuck, is a consideration.

I’m using 3D Studio Max, Rhinoceros, ideas, and AutoCAD many because that’s what my Uni uses, however I know that Pro Engineer or Solid works would be probably be better that ideas.

Henryhallam – Wow Potential clients thank you! It’s probably a bit premature at the moment but it’s a brilliant target to aim for.
I don't know how many (if any) CAD-class diagrams you'll find, but this link has a huge number of PDF files about space programs and spacecraft. The Gemini Familiarization manuals have several views of the craft with dimensions that could be used to create a CAD drawing (I have... albeit a very simplified 2D one). The Apollo familiarization manuals aren't dimensioned IIRC and wouldn't be nearly as good for that purpose. There may well be others, though.

If you were to do one for the Modified Apollo Logistics Spacecraft --- I'd be very interested in seeing the result.

Mr Morris _ thank you for that excellent link!

I don’t post nearly as often as I would like but I read the posts on SDC every day and have done for about four years. Your thread, “Gemini: We can rebuild it, we have the technology” (in Space Business & Technology) is the undoubtedly the best I’ve seen. Rather than us enthusiasts just posting about what we would like to see happen. You made real progress and clearly showed what is possible.

I just hope Falcon 5 is a success.

I will definitely have a bash at a Modified Apollo Logistics Spacecraft.
