Thanks, swampcat! Wow, that brings the linear features out even more. It's so startling to discover that those are really *cliffs*, not just albedo features. I wonder what created them?

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff." -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

This color image of Iapetus was put together from the IR1, GRN and UV3 filter raw images taken December 27 at a distance of approximately 762,000 km.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

"I hold it that a little rebellion now and then is a good thing, and as necessary in the political world as storms in the physical. Unsuccessful rebellions, indeed, generally establish the encroachments on the rights of the people which have produced them. An observation of this truth should render honest republican governors so mild in their punishment of rebellions as not to discourage them too much. It is a medicine necessary for the sound health of government."

Thomas Jefferson

Here is another Iapetus image and some extreme close-up that I enlarged. There are some moons of
Iepetus or Saturian moons in the distance in the background on the left side. There is an orange shaped
nib on the right side, wonder if that was created by the large impact crater to the left from the resulting
shock wave.
Ron Bennett

Here is an extreme close-up of the northern part of the image that looks like it is engulfed in sunlight.

Notice the streamers coming up from the surface in the sunlight area only???
Ron Bennett

Don't know what to think of the moon like object lower right part of this image (may be a optics
deflection of some-sort) and the apparent ridges stretching out to space from the surface of Iapetus .
I may have streched this image past its limit.
Ron Bennett

More -

Keep in mind that these images are from one filter images. True representation of the colors can
only be verified by three filters sandwiched together (RGB) and no one does that better than the
people at JPL. I'm only doing it this way with these images to bring out the detail that one cannot
normally view by just looking at the raw images.

N00026249.5

Ron Bennett
