While searching for a different news item I found this one about an Indian re-entry test programme:

http://www.spacedaily.com/news/india-04l.html

It was going to fly this year. I tried to Google for "Space capsule Recovery Experiment (SRE)" and found this official page about an airdrop test in August 2004:

http://www.isro.org/pressrelease/Aug19_2004.htm

Does anyone have more information? Has it flown yet? If not, when will it fly?

"When the 650-kg Cartosat-2 is launched some time early in 2006, it will ride piggyback on the PSLV (Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle) with ISRO's Space-capsule Recovery Experiment (SRE). The SRE will wiegh 600-kg and will be put into the polar sun-synchronous orbit at 620 km. After a few experiments in micro-gravity it will be deorbited and gradually brought back to the earth, to land in the Bay of Bengal, some 140 km off Sriharikota, from where it will be recovered by ship."

http://www.thescian.com/blog/index.php?/archives/2005/08/25.html
