On John Varleys website, he has a short clip about the Novels Titan, Wizard, Demon being optioned for a TV series.

http://www.varley.net/

About halfway down the screen, under the headline Varley News.

"optioned by a Canadian producer. His intention is to turn them into three mini-series for cable TV. (HBO was mentioned, though no particular company is involved yet.) This is extremely early times for this project."

COOL !

http://www.varley.net/Pages/Ann%20Coulter%20apology.htm

And he DOES NOT like Ann Coulter werry werry much.

Caution, stiff words on link, that he was brought to by her saying

"U.S. soldiers who die in Iraq knew they would. Most of them couldn't get a decent job in the private sector anyway, so what does it matter? Someone has to die in a war, why not the poor?".

Did she really say that?.

My goodness, I am amazed she lives yet.
I hope he is right about it actually going somewhere. I won't believe it until I see somewhere that it is mostly made.

There are several steps in production of a novel. Here is the vastly abbreviated version.
1) Buy the rights.
2) Create a screenplay.
3) Get financing.
4) Hire a director and actors.
5) Make it.

Movies fail at any stage of the game, when no-one ponies up the money, when they can't get the desired talent, etc.

Don't be like that, just think about how cool the movie could be though.

Orbiting Gaea and everyone excited as hell, "An immense artifact, wow, must have been here for thousands of years . . . Captain, a bulge coming around the horizon *COLLISION ALERT, OBJECT APPROACHING* arrrgh" -tentacle rape on a space-craft-

Waking up inside, and looking "up".

If you get all pessimistic now, Tinkerbell might die !. I want to hear you clapping along with us, mister !

"I believe in fairies!"

I bet cocaine snorting and free sex that took place aboard the ship will not make it into the script.

Seriously, "Titan" was fun when it was written, but it had not aged well. Politics are not believable (although they do not really appear until "Demon"), Gaia's biological/mind control abilities are too much in "magic" department, and social mores... Everyone on board "Ringmaster" sleeps with everyone else, except for two clones who are in monogamous incestuous lesbian relationship (now THAT's a mouthful!) -- and NASA is considered prudish because it prefers these facts not to be known to public.

Well, I loved his story Air Raid, and someone managed to make Millenium out of it... I'll reserve judgement...

I wish I could remember
But my selective memory
Won't let me - Mark Oliver Everett
