ES, I think you're right. It's a snake!

On a world with 1/100 the atmosphere of earth, no free oxygen, frigid temperatures, and no other signs of life (even bacterial), a large, macroscopic snake is bathing in the sun.

And it does a great job looking like rocks to, must be a survival mechanism.

--------------------SaiphMOD@gmail.com -------------------

"This is my Timey Wimey Detector. Goes "bing" when there's stuff. It also fries eggs at 30 paces, wether you want it to or not actually. I've learned to stay away from hens: It's not pretty when they blow" -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

"Does the snake come with a formula? Maybe a wave equation.. It does look "wavy". "

We're a bit Uncertain about that. Honestly, I don't know why you dignify such posts with a comment. Why not just leave it to the moderators to remove it as the vexacious trolling that it is. I guess I just added a comment.

Okay, it's one rock.
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will to strive, to seek, to find and not to yeild. - Tennyson

Alpha,
Well, I don't post much here, but if you are brave enough to step into the SETI forum, you will see a thread about blue flowers of Mars by our friend Extrasense. That one had formulas, so I thought the snake had formulas too...

Regards
arit

"We will either find a way, or make one!" - Hannibal

I read all about the blue flowers on the Mark Carey Forum, where there is a similar thread. Extrasense shares his ideas all around the internet. I sometimes wish he was not so sharing.

Oh yes, I read those too. He had some pretty interesting pictures of...rocks. And rocks. And more rocks.

Mmm. Have to find someone to write this guy up in the Journal of American Psychiatry. Or someone to lock him up...

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

There is a growing trend in most countries not to lock up harmless cases. Apparently, many of them gravitate towards public transport, because they cling to familiarity. I remember the last time I was in Rome Italy, I used public transport a lot, and saw some pretty bizarre behaviour, including one guy who stood on his hands for the entire trip, and another who just spouted nonsense continuously, taking words from other people's conversations.

I guess rocks are quite familiar objects too.

Ex...if I may call you Ex...I'm not a scientist, although I did get A's in both Biology and in Geology as an undergrad. Since I'm in a Master's program at the moment, and since I'm probably old enough to be your mother or possibly your grandmother, please let me give you a little advice and my views of your snake....

Now its a pretty rock, but I believe its at least two if not three rocks. But its still a rock, not a snake, not a lizard, but a rock or series of rocks, how can I say this? Okay, snakes along with lizards, alligators, toads, frogs, etc are anphibians which by the very meaning of that word means they are 'cold' blooded. They need the warmth of the sun, they don't do well in cloudy conditions.

If you look at snakes here, there are far more snakes in the Amazon then there are in Alaska. Why? Again, snakes need warmth!!! They love humidity also.

Now rocks can live anywhere, they can live at the equator and not get too hot, and they can live at Antartica, because they don't get too cold either. Now why do I think that's a rock vs. snake? Because it looks like a rock, it almost looks like granite and yes, I've seen rocks in many differing shapes including like a snake with no other rocks like it around. Rocks like to be independent also, you know...

Now for my advice. Please keep these posts on Seti where people who understand you can listen you prattle on about snaky-rocks.....Thank you for your time and patience, because you are wearing mine pretty thin here....

I figured it out!

It's a coprolite. Many examples have been found on Earth, and now Mars. It could even be a snake corprolite.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I really, really, really miss the "first unread post" function.

claywoman:

"anphibians which by the very meaning of that word means they are 'cold' blooded"

Well, this is a science forum, So when you post wrong facts, prepare for the attack.

Amphibians does not mean cold-blooded. It means that they can live in either the land or the sea. Some snakes are amphibians, many are not (like those who live in deserts, for example).

Also:

"There is no animal alive today that truly fits the description of cold-blooded. Reptiles, insects, fish and all other so called "cold-blooded" animals (basically anything that is not a bird or mammal) are actually quite capable of controling their body temperatures. They do it through a process known as thermoregulation. "
from http://reptilis.net/cold-blood.html

Respectfully yours

arit

"We will either find a way, or make one!" - Hannibal

Arit - while your comments on amphibians and thermoregulation are correct, I also think that they were unnecessary.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I really, really, really miss the "first unread post" function.

I am sorry arit, I told you in the beginning of the post, I'm NOT a scientist! I should have stated that snakes and lizards are considered cold-blooded...what I was trying to point out however, why snakes could not live on Mars....sorry...I won't post again, at least not here....
