Google news has a few links. Basically Scifi is ending the Stargate SG1 series after season 10 (that's this season). StarGate Atlantis will continue. MGM is trying to get someone to pick it up, but there is no granatee that it will happen.

The one article I read said there are 215 episodes total for SG1, 200th was just on Friday night, so we still have 15 more weeks. Is that right?

At least Atlantis will still be on and let's not forget BSG.

The ending of Season 8 was really the ending. It created the perfect temporal paradox and ended with everyone at Jack's cabin fishing. Why in the world go further than that?

Vote Libertarian

Anyone see the 200th episode. They really threw some hilarious spoofs in there.

I'm glad to see this show go in to the sunset, it's getting pretty stale and I'd hate to see end on a worse note.

Who's willing to bet one of the characters will be transferred to Atlantis?

Its time for it to go. Atlantis is a decent show and can carry the flag now.

One Percent of Federal Funding For Space: America CAN Afford it!! LEO is a Prison -- It's time for a JAILBREAK!!

I think 10 seasons is enough. But for those who yearn for more, do not despair yet. MGM has said they do not intend to stop producing the show yet. Sci-Fi hasn't ordered any more episodes, but that won't stop them from shopping around for another broadcaster.

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff." -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

Shouldn't they call the show "Fargate FG-1" now anyways?

Vote Libertarian

Doubt anybody will pick up broadcasting rights for it, SG-1's ratings have come down a fair bit this season.

I read that some of the actors will end up on Stargate Atlantis.

The 200th episode is a definate example of a show running it's course.

Kind of feel sorry that the Farscape guys didn't get a longer run. I don't see Ben Browder or Claudia Black being the ones on Atlantis.

That's to bad. I've been watching for years and I find the whole Ori story line to be much more interesting than the Gu'a'uld and way more interesting than the Wrathe in the Atlantis series. I really don't like it when they create series running is parellel at the same time. That's what killed Star Trek.

I'm well aware the 200th episode was a spoof. It comes across to me that they are definately running out of ideas.

I do enjoy the show though.

I find it amazing that the Sci-Fi channel does not have room for Stargate, but they do for wrestling and lots of really bad movies.

I love Stargate, though we have only seen to the end of Season 8 here so far. I have some trepidation about the introduction of the Farscape actors. I was never a fan of that show, nor am I really a fan of bringing actors into a show who already have a strong profile in another show of the same genre.

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

The ironic thing is, I've only seen the original movie that started the franchise, and all episodes of Stargate: Atlantis up to Season 3 Ep 10. For some reason, the last 10 episodes of Season 3 haven't been done, while the previous 2 had 20 so I would expect them.

I did see half an episode of SG1 once, I figure it might be good, so maybe I'll buy DVDs? It's not as stand-alone as many of the Star Trek series episodes, so I think that would be a better appraoch yes?

It's called ATTENTION SPAN. Oh, look; puppies...

But seriously, it's time for it to end. Even the show itself broke the 4th Wall in the 200th episode to say that anything after Season 8 was a waste...

One Percent of Federal Funding For Space: America CAN Afford it!! LEO is a Prison -- It's time for a JAILBREAK!!

True. Seven years is optimal for a well-produced series.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

Then you boys have no idea what the English, and their colonies - Australia and New Zealand - have had to go though since the early 1960's:

CORONATION STREET

In my opinion the longest running piece of crap EVER, since December 1960!

Whenever I have left the TV on the wrong channel, and I here the opening theme, I dash from anywhere in the house and terminate the TV!

Yep that's now 46 years of uninterrupted agony! Wikipedia it. Oh yeh, its also the same opening theme.

I believe the last of the original cast left the show - and the planet - only a few years ago. In NZ where about 18 months behind the UK, probably because they still use the same transportation method as at the beginning - rowing it over!

7 or 10 years is NOTHING, try suffering through 46! And its still going!

Ever heard of "the guiding light"? this piece of crap has been on the air in the US since June 30, 1952. That is nearly 55 years of crap. And that is just on TV. IIRC it was a radio soap opera that initially started in the late 1930s

As the world turns: on the air since 2 april 1956
General hospital: 1 april 1963
One life to live: 15 july 1968

Now that's a lot of crap!

Crap; finally something I should be knowledgable about as I'm told repeatedly that I'm full of the stuff. So 2 points to ponder ...

1) In determing some shows Crap Quotient I think we've been concentrating on a single measure, longevity. That's natural of course as it's the easy, objective metric to obtain. But I say it's not the only factor to consider. Nooo, we have to also consider the intentisity of a show's crappiness. For example how many years of SG1 (when it was bad) would it take to equal a single Jerry Springer show ? Not so easy now is it ? To get a measure of a show's CQ we must integrate it's crap intensity over it's longevity on a show by show basis. Only then can we truly say how much crap a show has added to the universe.

2) I liked SG1 after it's initial growing season and then somewhere along the way it got "tired". When the writers are including the line "SG1 saves the world again" into the script you know they're running on empty. So I catch the show when I've got nothing else to watch. I'm not up on the latest in the Origin plot line but it did seem to be potentially fertile ground. I guess I'll see if they tended to the crop properly when I catch up on the show sometime. Meanwhile BSG fills my SF show needs .... with a low CQ.

-----------------------------------------------------

Ask not what your Forum Software can do do on you,

Ask it to, please for the love of all that's Holy, STOP !

"Yeah, but are they played 4 nights a week? Saturation coverage. "

Hmmm, your point is well made. Is this a potential 3'rd dimension in the calculation of CG ? Maybe we need to form an ad-hom committe to investigate the matter, set forth the standard and then spread our crap onto whomever we deem needs it ?

-----------------------------------------------------

Ask not what your Forum Software can do do on you,

Ask it to, please for the love of all that's Holy, STOP !
