OK. I started getting SciFi channel a few months ago and, as I cannot watch TV all the time, I had to choose an appropriately timed program. So the first thing I watched was the X-Files. I am an utter ET / conspiracy skeptic, but found this show quite engaging. Problem is, they played series 1 to 4 and have now gone back to series 1 again. Question 1: Why don't they play the other series'? Don't they have the licence?

So what to watch next: Stargate, Stargate Atlantis, all five Star Trek series (I saw a fair bit of the first when I was younger), Battestar Galactica, Babylon 5, Odyssey 5, Tripping the Rift, Cleopatra 2525, Lexx, etc etc - the list goes on.

Bear in mind, I lived in a country with no commercial TV from 1996 to 2006. So there is lots for me to watch. I hope I don't offend anyone, but the little I have seen of later episodes of Star Trek, I find quite tedious. Question2: Why are all the aliens in Star Trek humanoid, with slightly different head proturbances and markings? How do Star Trek fans stay so engaged and not fall asleep?

Question 3: So, recommendations? What should I watch next? How does one manage starting to watch something in the middle of a series?

Where is this place if you don't mind my asking?

My borrowed quote for the time being:

There are three kinds of people in life. Sure. I lived in Myanmar / Burma. I have discussed it from time to time on past threads. It is changing a little now. There is a growing black market in satellite dishes, so people are getting Asian satellite channels. While is it illegal, the Government seems to tolerate it now. The only offical channels are State run. While I got some satellite TV towards the end of my stay there, the only English channels we managed to get were the BBC and CCTV9 and what I think was a Taiwanese channel called Hollywood, which played nothing but second and third rate stuff from the US. So I have not seen any commercial series produced in that period.

Thanks, maybe I'll move there LOL, but on second thought, I can see why they have no commercials if they run second and third rate stuff.

My borrowed quote for the time being:

There are three kinds of people in life. If you can get beyond the "forehead of the week" LOL

Thanks anvel and crazyeddie for those useful suggestions. Looks like Stargate and Batlestar Galactica may be the way to go.

Good suggestion also on the DVDs. I'll figure out which episode they're up to on the net and then maybe hire and watch DVDs until I am in synch with the SciFi channel. Great! Thanks!
