Ok, I'm looking at some Newtonian reflectors as well as Maks... since I'm a poor working slob I need "bang for the buck". I like Orion scopes, but are Celestrons' umm, value scopes pretty good? The two I'm looking at are the PowerSeeker 127mm EQ (which can be had for $130 shipped ) and the FirstScope 114mm EQ Compact (for roughly the same). Any opinions?

Really, it's better to wait until you can spend 3 or 4 hundred bucks. If you need to spend less, buy a good set of binoculars.

Just my opinion, of course

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Yeah, I've looked through that article. Not in depth though. I would like a good all around scope that I can use for terrestrial viewing if I so desire. Thats' the only problem with newtonians. Don't get me wrong, I think they're great. I also need it to be as COMPACT as possible. Thats' what is attracting me to the small Maks and Short tube refractors.
