The article at http://www.solarhigh.com titled 'Space Mining' begins discussing Space Mining from a different perspective. Most Space Mining talks about extraction from the solar system and bringing the materials to Earth or to other human use closer to home.

The article discusses a different possibility. It talks about recinding the real estate sage advice 'they ain't making any more of it'. The change would mean a new land rush on Mars.

Actually it would only be Mars in the sense that the newly available land will approximately be in the location where Mars previously appeared. But, the new Mars would be several times larger than the existing Mar.

Space Mining would mean bringing asteroids and comets to Mars to increase Mars mass. With tweaks and turns over a couple million years, ReMax and Century 21 could begin reselling land. In this case, the land would be Mars-land.

Most of our own planet in not inhabited. The uninhabited lands are much more human-friendly than any land on Mars.

You can still carve your own 'estate' out of many wilderness area in Canada. I'm sure you could pick up 10 acres cheap in the dry Australian Outback or in the middle of Nevada. Even great chunks of China are not that populated. A desert in China is a lot more suitable for humans than a frozen desert on Mars.

There's no lack of land on Earth but a lack of places where most people want to live. Sure, Man may go to Mars one day but it won't be for land.

George Bush would first have to assume there are WMD's in space.

Leave the politics in Free Space. Please.
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will to strive, to seek, to find and not to yeild. - Tennyson

I think it would honestly take a huge increase in our technology. I think we are at least 50 years or more away from any serious improvements.
