Superstitious gobbledygook! If it makes you feel better, Discovery will actually be launching on the 14th here at the centre of the universe.

Edit: Assuming it goes on Day 1 of the window of course.

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

SG, how is your personal FRR? I trust the break was relaxing and we do hope you are healthy and in good form.

For sure. We've got the bases covered with the international element! I'm staying in Rockledge...I'm sure it's all workable by taxi.

Any UK people on here see the ITN (ITV News) report on the launch date? What an amazingly well done report. I don't know who the new space correspondant is, but she is AWESOME. She nailed every element from Columbia onwards.

Make sure you round up SG, rocket, Poodown, etc as well. The rest of us will be living vicariously through your experiences, and we'll all be looking forward to some great stories afterwards.

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

If they want it, I hope they get it.

The line I pointed out was they have the landing date at May 25...and we're in July

I've started a mission update thread for STS-114, we can use this thread for STS-121/300 and Endevour updates until we have a date for their missions.

Apparently part of the mods completed for RTF included finally fitting the 'Time Travel' button on the flight deck. Rockwell never talked about the capability much when they built Shuttle, but I'm sure many of their former employees will be quietly chuffed that it has finally been implemented.

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

Heh...I thought it might be light speed SSMEs - where you arrive back before you set off, in an ironically paradoxal way

In reply to:

i am getting indications thate we MAY NOT have a launch party but will celebrate after landing. This is a break from tradition, I guess due to the entry accident of Columbia. i do not agree with the change, but my vote does not count.

It almost seems 'disrespectful' to the memories of Columbia and her crew to mess with that tradition. To not celebrate launch, a significant and worthy endpoint in and of itself, almost seems to be 'encouraging' disaster or admitting you're not sure you have done a good job thus far.

Does it extend right back to the Apollo days? I can't imagine this kind of tradition would have been changed in the wake of '13.

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

Anyhoo.

How are we looking for the rollout date of Atlantis? July's going to be a very busy Shuttle month.

They said at the press conference yesterday July 20 for rollover, and addressed the cold-plate issue saying they have time in the schedule to still make that date.

-Ben

SG, Ben: Is it possible to get media access to a rollover? I know it'll be behind a perimeter line, but that's gonna be the closest one can get to an Orbiter without sneaking into an OPF

RTF, if the roll over is on during the '114 mission, the press site will normally be open each day. That means they may organise to view the roll over if it's within normal operating hours.

They often take accredited press thru an OPF as part of an orientation tour, but this time the numbers sound huge, so be early and persistant............I certainly will!
