I do feel sorry for the two birds that were flying near top of the ET seconds before lift-off, now they are either very deaf or very roasted.

They have now a free meal for the celebration

Has anyone who recorded the footage watched that moment frame by frame, where does it come from, the ET or the Orbiter?

Press Conference don't seem concerned about things, so that's good enough for me.

The one Sky News are reporting (at T+4 seconds, not SRB sep - which is the other debris report) looks like it could be 'paper' as in what they cover the RCSs with? Or even something coming off the pad.
New update on spaceflight now.

1605 GMT (12:05 p.m. EDT)

Mission management team chairmain Wayne Hale says he doesn't know any details about the debris coming off the tank noted just after booster separation. He said the film experts will be studying all launch footage frame by frame, as was plan doing into this first post-Columbia launch.
What? No they aren't lying. I just think that they as of yet don't have all the information. They haven't even reviewed the tapes yet.

yea but the news said it hit the orbiter but the people at the news say stuff to get people hooked to watch i watched the debris come off 5 or 6 times and it looks to have missed discovery by a good few feet but we will have to ask shuttle guy what it really was

The situation at the moment is that they don't know. None of the panelists have seen the image that spaceflightnow has posted.
It may be serious. It may not. Let's give them until the next MMT.

Is NASA going to put the launch footage available online any time soon? If not, perhaps some good soul who recorded it would pack it and put into some bittorrent site

Anybody know when the recovery ships are expected back in port? Probably not till tomorrow or later I'd assume... I'm guessing I'd be able to see them come in from where I work.

I love how Griffin responded to the reporter's comment about not blowing the debris issue out of proportion!!

I hear you. He gives some brilliant quotes and some great retorts. Clever guy that also seems to be relaxing more and more in front of the media (compared to his first conference).

Can't believe we're almost at T+2hours already!

I agree, Griffin definatly needs to stay, but he has said with certainty that he will leave when Bush Does. We can all hope that he will change his mind.

If he does leave then hopefully one of his people that shares his vision will take his place.
