frodo1008:
For NASA's Sake I certainly hipe so! God knows there are enough critics ready to kill the entire program!

Me:
Unfortunately, those program kill critics have always been there.

My borrowed quote for the time being:

There are three kinds of people in life. You guys are missing out, I got up to 10,000ft today with a couple of friends above a deck at SCT070. Beautiful!

Thanks for the updates as ever, S.G.

I wasn't really sure if it had to do with being dangerous or if it had more to do with the fact that it could damage the foam. It seems like if you chill it way down and then warm it back up, then have to chill it way down again for flight, the foam would be much more likely too fall off.

Will the roll to the pad move up a day also? (assuming the stacking goes to schedule)

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

SG, what amount of time does the stacking normally take? Does much else have to be done
(to the STS) in the VAB? What's your guess to when she rolls out to the pad?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm just itching to see this baby in-orbit again!

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Wanna see this site looking like the old SDC uplink?

Go here to see how: SDC Eye saver

Thanks for the updates, SG. I wish we could nominate a bit of CCTV coverage on NASA TV at times like this.

I just listened to the top-of-the-hour news bulletin on the NZ radio station I tune into, and a story about the Orbiter roll to the VAB was included. Had a little sound byte from Mike Ryan at NASA talking about things still looking positive for the opening of the window on 1 July.

I have to say I was heartened by the fact that, despite the apparent belief to the contrary sometimes, the Space Shuttle is still considered very news-worthy, even in a place like NZ. I like that I can turn on my local radio and learn that the roll to the VAB is delayed.

Public interest in space exploration is far from dead in this part of the world at least.

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

Hey, thanks news! I never realised this existed though, having become 'lazy' now that I have NASA TV at home, I'll admit I don't hunt around the NASA website as much as I used to. Their website isn't the easiest to navigate around either, especially if you already know what you're wanting to look at.

Now added to my favourites at work.

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

It might be an optical illusion, but do they have to tilt the module before they lift it? If so, why? Thanks.

I'm starting to get excited about the tangible movement towards launch now. It's been some long hard years since Columbia, that is for sure. I hope those foam experts have got it right this time so we can get back to some kind of normal flight ops.

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

*fanfare*

This post has reached the 600-post limit. And the mission hasn't even rolled to the pad yet! Now that's anticipation.

I'm going to lock this thread and initiate the "part two" thread.

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff." -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"
