I think this was mentioned in the conference, but ive forgot what they said. How does the Progress launch and docking effect STS-122?

Correct Shuttle_guy. Bigger issues is altitude for Progress and Shuttle. If we go ahead with the reboost to set up for Progress Feb 7, we might well be agreing to a flight day 4 rendezvous, which means no EVA 4, but maybe still 1 extension day. In addition, the sleep shift betwen Progress and Shuttle would be huge so some buffer days would be required. A lot of variables that are trying to be sorted. And the Russians pretty much don't want to change their schedules based on fuzzy NASA schedules.

shuttle_guy,

Does anybody have any idea why the LCO circuits have become an issue in the last few years? I don't seem to recall of hearing about problems with them before the Columbia was lost.
The secret to peace of mind is a short attention span.

Would the Thrust Vector Controller box that appeared to fail have been a constraint to launch?

A late post by me:

Jan. 4, 2008
Candrea Thomas
Kennedy Space Center, Fla.
321-867-2468
candrea.k.thomas@nasa.gov
STATUS REPORT: S-010408
NASA'S SPACE SHUTTLE PROCESSING STATUS REPORT

Mission: STS-122 - 24th International Space Station Flight - Columbus
Module
Vehicle: Atlantis (OV-104)
Location: Launch Pad 39A
Launch Date: Under Review
Crew: Frick, Poindexter, Schlegel, Eyharts, Love, Melvin, Walheim
Inclination/Orbit Altitude: 51.6 degrees/122 nautical miles

Shuttle Program managers requested Thursday that flight control teams
and ground operations teams protect for a Jan. 24 launch date. As
work progresses, that date will be modified as required. Other launch
opportunities could come between Jan. 24 and the first week of
February.

At Launch Pad 39A, preparations began for modifications to the engine
cutoff (ECO) sensors. New external connectors and feed-through
assemblies will arrive at KSC Jan. 5-6. Change out is expected to be
completed by Jan. 10. Testing of the faulty ECO sensor continues at
Marshall Space Flight Center with cryo testing planned next week.

Troubleshooting on the ascent thrust vector control (ATVC) was
performed Jan. 3, and the ATVC will be removed, replaced, and then
retested over the weekend.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Could the cracks in the glass insert somehow be causing the ECO problems?

I assume the tanking test will be the launch attempt then?

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Monsters. Guess so, no mention of a test anywhere.

Was watching a program on the Discovery Channel about how they build the SSME and how they test them. Start of the program they mentioned the loss of 2 orbiters in the past, one being Discovery!

How can you get a fact like that wrong

Aha, you've discovered a problem with the Discovery Channel, which is pretty damn ironic considering their mistake involved Discovery!!

Like so many other "scientific" channels they are more than happy to broadcast crap as long as it gets good ratings

That's why I love PBS.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. I (as usual) am not clear about the new connector.

The new pass through connector has pins. They soldered the sockets to the pins and then assembled the rest of the connector. That leaves a connector with wires coming out of it.

Are the wires going to be attached to another male connector so the original wiring harness can plug into it instead of to the pass through connector on the tank? Or are the wires from the harness (to the orbiter) going to have the original connector cut off and be soldered to the wires that have been soldered to the connector on the tank?

Where did you get the info from?

Launch time is ~ 2:45 PM EST, so I assume that applies fot the rest of the times that would be 1945 UT.

Edited for time typo

But the Krell forgot one thing John.
