There are about sixty possible sources for ice particles on the Shuttle; these particles can follow the vessel in space for some considerable time, so not all the particles visible in the clip need be explained by a single dump.

Additionally the three-dimensional movement of the Shuttle and any observers looking out of the windows has to be taken into consideration. Imagine you are in a snowstorm, with snowflakes falling in practically random directions; now omagine you are on the outside of a gently rotating cyinder which can move at irregular intervals under its own power. This is what the situation is like looking out of the Shuttle at ice particles.

In the past I have suggested that stereo cameras might be useful to demonstrate that these objects are small, and close to the ship; but even then, no doubt, one or two particles will occasionally be seen that could give rise to parallax error, so even this method might not be worth the extra expense.

---------------------------------------------------------------

http://orionsarm.com http://thestarlark.blogspot.com/
