I also posted in the STS-125 thread:I was also wondering how many contingency days are in the STS-126 flow, mainly as it relates to being in a state to allow the launch of STS-125?
Posted by emerrill

Between STS-125 and STS-126 the Hypergolic propellant load for STS-400 must be removed so that the STS-125 load can be serviced. Other unique STS-400 items must be deconfigured. Once the STS-125 Orbiter no longer needs a rescue stack ready to launch then the STS-126 vehicle will then be moved to Pad A for normal launch processing. The are ZERO contingency days in the schedule ffor STS-126 after STS-125 launches.

The hypergolic prop load for STS-400 is different than STS-126 due to the mission requirements. The prop tank loads can not simply be adjusted, the tanks must be drained and refilled to ensure the proper load.

The Pad A nominal turn around after the STS-125 launch is 8 days. This is not a constraint for STS-126 because the STS-400 configuration at Pad B must be maintained until the final STS-125 Orbiter MMOD inspection shows the vehicle is ready for re-entry.

The vehicle processing is progressing normally. The pad interface testing and SSME Flight Readiness Test (FRT) has been completed. The final SSME launch preps are inwork.

This coming week the attititude control and orbital manauvering hypergolic servicing will be performed then the spacesuits will be serviced and stowed onboard. At that point the vehicle will stop processing and wait until the STS-125 mission is ready to return to Earth.

Hypergolic prop loading was scheduled to run all of this coming weekend. The schedule now shows that we will power the vehicle down Friday and start the hypergolic loading Monday. We have not loaded hypers at pad B in nearly 2 years so I expect we will see more than the usual problems in the GSE (Ground Support Equipment) I expect BFRCs: Big uh... Freaking Red (deadly) Clouds that forms when we have a Nitrogen Tetraoxide (hypergolic oxidizer) leak and Fuel leaks which are also very hazardious since the fuel will self ignite easily and it is also deadly to humans). All in all a fun time for all.

This schedule slip indicates that the STS-125 launch attempt will slip a few days since the urgency to have this vehicle serviced with hypergolic prop. to support a possible STS-125 rescue mission is now not so urgent. The rumor is the STS-125 launch will move to Sunday Oct. 12th.
