A character which has inspired me greatly is Louis Wu, from thr Ringworld saga; he never gives up, even if faces with someome faster, smarter or fiercer than he.
Posted by eburacum45

brilliant. i half doubted anyone would throw in any characters from the ringworld books. Louis Wu would definitely be in my top ten at any rate. Roland Deschain of the dark tower series was another. There is a character in a series of books called Deathlands, setting: post nuclear holocaust america... a late teen/early twenties albino with a clipped way of speaking and expertise with throwing knives named Jak Lauren...

oh yeah, Death, Granny Weatherwax, Rincewind the wizard, Sam Vimes and Lord Vetinari are all delightful characters from the Discworld series....

I enjoyed the Elric books, and yeah, he was a great anti-hero, but sometimes i found myself thinking, jeez... this guy is so put upon and so brooding im contemplating falling on a sword myself just reading it....

oh... jeez... thats just silly... i almost forgot one of my all time faves... Felix, (yeah, ironic huh), from John Steaklys 'Armor'... later known also as Lewis, Owner of Sanction and champion drunken fisher.

Miles Teg from the later end of the Dune series (while it was still being written by Frank Herbert)... an older guy who ... well.. its complicated... lets just say he ended up sort of hitting one of those mutational sudden jumps in evolution and kicked his reflexes up a couple notches... also liked Leto II from those books...

on a side note i laughed my ass off at Jeff Goldblume in The Fly...
