The flames of the J-2X are green??
So the flames under the first stage of the Ares V will also be green, that would be an awesome launch

So it is more likely it will be transparent like the Shuttles main engines?
I hoped it would be something special like the Saturn V with it's black smoke, sucked back into the platform, and after a moment giant blue flames when it lifted off.

In reply to:

Copper must be in use for these tests since copper gives off a green flame. The use of copper in these early injector tests does not mean copper will be used in the production engine.

The injector itself looks like stainless steel from the video. The flame looks green on the initial hot fire but then looks like the normal blue in subsequent shots.

There probably some impurities in the flowpath for the first shot, that could explain the green flame, or just the way sunlight & camera effect from that angle.

The exhaust of the Ares V will be reddish like the Delta-IV and not clear like the shuttle. The ablative nozzle of the RS-68 adds color

<The flames of the J-2X are green??
So the flames under the first stage of the Ares V will also be green, that would be an awesome launch />

The J-2X is the second stage engine of the Ares I. The core stage engine of the Ares V is the RS-68.
