Replying to:

Just wait the fur will fly when both sides start going in on each other...desertion among the ranks both for the humans and cylons - mutiny I say mutiny ....
Posted by lildreamer

Let’s imagine for a while that the BSG story is about angels returning to Earth, and that there is a plot amongst them similar to The Last Supper. If so, I find the BSG storyline more interested than previously imagined, because I'm a great fan of the rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar, and that tribal/political/theocratic plot.

Concerning the angels’ part in JCS, they’re simply gone. They left JC to die alone, and thereby missed the whole point. The angels blamed the humans to be the cause to the war in Heaven and the fall of 1/3 of them. Humans were kicked out of Eden and were flushed down in the Great Flood. For goodness sake, they wreck the towers of Babel, crushed some sin-cities and plagued Egypt to ruin. Consequently they might have thought that there wasn’t more to hang around for when JC cried; ‘why have you forsaken me?’

The whole point with the crucifixion was God’s forgiving the human race. What the angels must have missed in their absence is that they probably were forgiven as well. Now they’re returning, - in some arc-like space-ship. They seem to be going through the same plot as JC thousands of years earlier. In BSG it might lead to a second revolution amongst the heavenly dozen. Will they ever realize that there's no reason to fight anymore, because they’re long ago forgiven as well?

I really loved the "Light" and "Dark" in B5. In the end, it was shown that it isn't the extremes of "Order" or "Chaos" that is ultimately for the best - It's a blending of the two.

Perhaps BSG is going with a "benevolent transcended alien race" type of thing. An alien race that has had its battles with its own creations and learned to accept them and merge with them? That could account for some of the religious type of experiences shown so far and, IMO, would fit in fairly well with the Sci-Fi theme without stomping on religious toes by introducing God, Angels, etc.. Religion could still be there, somewhere, perhaps mentioned by the transcended aliens/beings. They could refer to their own search for meaning or God or even an enlightened understanding of Creation itself in the end.

I put on my robe and wizard hat...

Replying to:

What makes me wonder just WTH is going on, is the nagging question of Colonel Tigh's age. He would be one of the first human-like Cylons created. So in the end, must we assume that the extermination of the Human race was already being planned by the Cylons of 50 years ago?[/quote]

It's possible. However, it's also possible he was taken out and replaced by a duplicate. I don't think there's anything that says all of the models were molded at the same time in their present form.

....Quite the irony there. For a "species" that self-declares themselves as morally and ethically superior to humans, they have managed to demonstrate every bad tendency humans have, but magnified. They're not angels - they're more like self-created Demons.
Posted by yevaud

A portion of them believe they're on some Holy Crusade that is tied in with some Cycle that all have been going through forever and ever, Amen, etc.. So, from their point of view, they have a Holy Mission of Redemption for both Humans and Cylons from this perpetual Cycle of conflict.. or something..

I put on my robe and wizard hat...

Others are fallen and losers. It’s a complex hierarchy of angel, counting nine kinds. Archangels like Micheal and Gabriel are really at the very lover level in the hierarchy. They are the kind that is allowed to mingle amongst humans, just to see that we don’t mess up in Heaven again. However, I don’t think I've ever heard that other than angels says that they are of Gods grace. God only express through angels, - you know.

I think Gaius Baltar is destined to become a martyr and that Chief Galen Tyrol will be an executer. I also think that number six (red hot cylon) will suffer and that number three (disobedient and rivalling cylon) will be the prosecutor. This can be read out of the picture.

However, they have rather complex interrelation and the writers keep pulling rabbits out of the hat. There isn’t even unanimity about the events around the real Supper intrigue. Now there is a Judas’ gospel too. Furthermore, while Christians consider JC the son of God, Muslims consider JC merely a true prophet while the Jews consider him a false.

Is Baltar a fool? He was considered a genius amongst most humans. However, that might change in the end when his secrets get loose. Number six was the true contributor to ‘the improvement’ to the human defence system. Baltar loves no one but himself. His feminine alter ego doesn’t count as an other person. Baltar might be intelligent, but not in a social way. Even though Baltar has proven a survivor against all odds, his egocentric social idiocy will backfire in the end and make him the martyr he really doesn’t want to be.

How the BSG writers are going to twist the story can be anyone’s guess. Maybe they quite don’t know themselves yet. I've heard only half the season 4 is finished by now. Still I think they have bound themselves to religious scripts so they have to complete that path. It will be very interesting to see how they will conclude the series. I only hope they don’t end up with a human population of 144000. That script doesn’t deserve such attention.
