Replying to:

I really loved the "Light" and "Dark" in B5. In the end, it was shown that it isn't the extremes of "Order" or "Chaos" that is ultimately for the best - It's a blending of the two.
Posted by a_lost_packet_

I'm still at the third season of the new BSG series. When the waiting got too much for me, I simply had to see the last ten episodes of the classic BSG. Previously, I only saw the first half of the box because I lost interest. Now with the new series, I found that the classic episodes are rather interesting. First of all, main characters have the same names, like Starbuck, Adama, Baltar etc. Furthermore, the new theme is much more like the classic than I remembered.

Knowing how the classic BSG end, I can’t resist speculating in how the new BSG will develop. Classic Baltar turns out to be a kind of nice guy, - not by free will but out of the circumstances. There is a candid bad guy indifferent to a religious ‘dark side’ that controls Baltar and uses humans. There was a global conflict between the Western and Easter alliance that would have ended in a nuclear holocaust, if the Battlestar hadn’t interfered in time. A being of light tells that Terra isn’t Earth after all. The last episode is a major anti-climax that most likely should have been added with the text ‘To be continued’.

The last impression is what worries me. Remembering the B5 series, with its 100 episodes, it ended in a tremendous anti-climax. My impression is that it should have had one more season, - or a least a concluding movie. All we got was some spin-off series. I have seen the new B5 DVD ‘The untold stories’. It seems to be a fair attempt to complete the B5 saga, but seeing the interviews in the extra materiel, I get the impression that it has become much too hard to do.

I think BSG is brilliant. I also believe that the writers have it all in place. However, even though Humans can settle with the Cylons, I suspect that the real human dogmatics are too hard to overcome.

Spoiler alert for those not having seen at least the prior seasons.

OK, I just got a chance to watch this season's 3 (so far) episodes. I'm still thinking BSG jumped the shark with the latest 4 skin jobs and Starbuck's "death". The Cylons seem to be intended to be a mirror held up to humanity for they have all the same faults we do. I think Baltar's acquittal and the crossbreeding btw skin jobs and humans are ndications that BSG will reconcile the war btw humans and Cylons. If humans can live with other humans, they can live with Cylons. Perhaps the storyline will have this ending up be nessecary for the survival of either/both races (procreation-wise). So I'm going to speculate this season's prime conflict will be with whatever force took Starbuck. Right now it's following the old BSG plotline of angels and demons too closely for my comfort, I hope something more original is in store.

Either Starbuck is right about the pathway to Earth or the President (and her religion) is. Perhaps the 13'th tribe left clues/markers on ther trip from Kobol and are now trying, many centuries later, to prevent the remants from catching up to them ? Perhaps BSG finds the 13'th tribe only to be rejected by them ?

So why wasn't Tigh "activated" earlier when he could have been decisive in battle ? Why aren't the humans using the virus to rid the fleet of any sleeper agents ? Or at least using their captured #6 and/or Athena to figure out how to detect skin jobs ? If Cylon skin jobs can be manufactured, why are they so interested in breeding with humans ? Since the final 5 skin jobs are secrets to the Cyclons, are we to assume they are not downloadable ? Where would their ressurection ship be ? Seems to me that Tigh's service (Boomer's too) and Anders noteriety would mean they just couldn't have been given false birth records (and such) and injected into Caprican society as adults. Where they substitued for the real humans at some point ?

-----------------------------------------------------

Ask not what your Forum Software can do do on you,

Ask it to, please for the love of all that's Holy, STOP !
