Baltar in my opinion is human. If he's not he's just doing his job, otherwise he's the flawed rotten scum bag we all want him to be.
Bob DeWoody

They'll keep him in the series by borrowing a plot line from the original series.

The bulk of the humans will be rescued by Adama. Baltar however wil be unable to escape and will remain with the Cylons. Most likely due to some grasp at self preservation and some arm wringing from one of the Sixes

Well it appears a new orcale has arrived . Seriously though, if they used TOS was a blue-print, they had to get Baltar with the Cylons, and tonight as you guessed, (or divined ) that was the perfect way for the writers to accompish that.

I loved tonight's episode as well...Ellen Tigh...I never imagined she would be capable of the level of self-scarifice she did tonight, and once again Colonel Tigh is a sympathetic figure. My favorite aspect of this series, is that they avoid the "cookie-cutter" charachters, even how Blatar ended up with the Cylons, was done in a selfess act to preserve humanity. Lastly, aside from all of the character issues, the battle scenes were great, and kept me on the edge of my seat.

Absolutely.

Jumping into the atmosphere, deploying during the fall then jumping out...?!
Frackin' Awesome!

Sacrifice.
...Not too proud to admit that it had me misty-eyed a few times.

Questions were answered.
Heroism and humanity.

Man, if that one episode doesn't take some sort of Emmy, something is wrong.

Mere precedent is a dangerous source of authority.

-Andrew Jackson (1767-1845)

I never saw that coming! My wife and I were watching it, and I muttered, "Holy crap! There's no heat shield on the bottom of that thing!"

On the other hand, any space vehicle that can survive a hit from a nuclear warhead must be pretty tough.

The scene with Ellen Tigh being poisoned by her husband as an act of mercy was so sad. The audience has always been led to believe that she was a complete skank, yet she saved her husband's life. You can't help but feel incredibly sympathetic for her in the end. It's like Greek tragedy.

This is one of the best episodes of BSG, story-wise, that I've ever seen. The action sequences also kept me on the edge of my seat.

*Warning - Spoiler! *

Sad to see the "P" go.... if G can jump out I wonder why Pegasus did not. Logically speaking, P is the more advanced and superior of the 2 (even has facility to build fighters) , so if one had to be sacrificed it should be the G, right..?
but then again, the name of the show would have to change...and they don't want that..do they :)

also, the g took so many hits one wonders where they get the materials to effect repair ? (nuclear resistant alloys to boot!) I mean without repairs, she would not be able to withstand more nuclear hits in future battles right?

As for tigh's wife...very odd. I thought in Season one it was established by Baltar that she is a cylon during the cylon test...?

To Boldly Go Where No Man Has Gone Before...

Live Long and Prosper

Excellent ep. Ran the entire emotional gambit. One thing I did get right in an earlier post - a battlestar can take out 2 or 3 basestars, though not exactly as one would think.

spectacular indeed. I'm going to rewatch that stunt and the space battle scenes on my DVR a few times.

however, the use of jumps in this season is bothering me. they are now doing accurate jumps into atmospheres and planetary gravity wells. they even jumped a raptor into a small canyon. since when? wasn't the margin for error so risky that they would hesitate to even jump close to a planet? did they improve they jump drives with the captured raider on a previous season and I forgot about it?

The only laws of matter are those which our minds must fabricate, and the only laws of mind are fabricated for it by matter.
--- James Clerk Maxwell

You're right, there are references to pilots being wary of jumping near planets. However, most of them, IIRC, were blind, or semi-blind jumps from outside the system entirely.

In this episode Galactica lurked about the planet hidden by the nebulae for a while, before they made the actual jump. If both it, and the raptor, did a good detailed analysis of the planet, and other factors they may have reduced the jump down to a tolerable risk level (especially considering the situation).

So I don't think they improved the jump drives, they just managed to have better jump coordinates/data.

--------------------SaiphMOD@gmail.com -------------------

"This is my Timey Wimey Detector. Goes "bing" when there's stuff. It also fries eggs at 30 paces, wether you want it to or not actually. I've learned to stay away from hens: It's not pretty when they blow" -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

So, it appears Baltar is one of the missing 5 Cylon models... Otherwise, he couldn't have crushed that #6 without a #12 spanner.

Glad to see they didn't "recover" the Colonel from his ordeal in an off-hand way. The trend would be he would be back on duty - no big deal. Clearly the Colonel's horrid wife was integral to his life and character. I think the writers have him appropriately impacted by it all. Superb acting.

The Cylon ship is a little strange. One has to wonder how the Cylon economy functions. The ships come from somewhere. They seem intent that humans not get away because they will come and kill them, yet they don't seem to be able to settle down anywhere to be killed.

It's getting pretty strange...

i have the series on DVD (it's not being shown on terrestial Tv here in the UK) so i'm limited to the mini series and season 1 and two....i've watched it a couple of times ...it's certainly an unique series (and better than the original series ..and it's not often you get to say that these days)

is there any explanation of why the captured raider has organic internals?? and given the hugely detrimental effect the radiation near the ammo storage station (in the mini series)had on the cylons, why the frak (lol) wasn't any research put into using that radiation as either a weapon or a cylon detector (unless that's why token perculiar brit baltair needed a nuclear warhead?) (mind you the protrayal of Brits in American series is a subject all to it'self..most perculiar stuff)...lol
it's barmy stuff...even tho i've watched it twice i still can't decide if i like it or not...but keep it coming i'm game for any half decent sci fi series..hope it goes the distance and it gets to season 7 and above

whats strange is baltar is the only person with a british accent...which they make fun of in a music video on the SciFi website.

The raider has organic materials because it's grown, not built.

There was research put into the radiation around that ammo dump, that's why it was there . They just haven't been able to sufficiently weaponize it, though I think it's part of the inspiration behind baltar's cylon detector with the warhead.

Though I think there'd be other ways to detect cylons, seeing as how they can directly interface with fiber-optic computer cables. My guess is baltar didn't have the medical expertise to know that.

As for baltar killing that #6...it was pretty messed up by that virus, so it was probably far easier to harm it than a healthy one.

--------------------SaiphMOD@gmail.com -------------------

"This is my Timey Wimey Detector. Goes "bing" when there's stuff. It also fries eggs at 30 paces, wether you want it to or not actually. I've learned to stay away from hens: It's not pretty when they blow" -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

ok?
my confusion with the organic raider was that i thought the organics were supposed to be the only erm...organic cylons? the rest being more traditional robots..i'm not knocking the series at all...it's just that IMO the way the series is angled , it doesn't give too much away (not a bad thing)- but it does leave me wondering which things are a genuine mystery (and part of the arcing plot- to be revealed later etc) and which are just odditys...do the walking toaster robotic cylons have organic internals?? if so then whats so special about the "human" models being organic?
if not then why have organic raiders? unless it's an extension of the "Scar" plotline to allow "ace" raiders to develop?
do the walking toasters get down loaded and re grown when they are killed?

i can just about cope with baltar being a Brit (it's at least a complex part and he's a good actor -if he wasn't it would be cringe worthy to say the least- traditional British part..(from an American point of view).1/3 Hugh Grant fop, 1/3 Die Hard Villian ,1/3 mad scientist..and he does get most of better lines..! )

i just can't figure out wether all the really inteligent stuff in the plotlines is deliberate or accidental??
i'll certainly be buying series three, when it gets released on DVD in the hope of finding out ...

loads of stuff to play with..

Hmm. If Baltar is a Cylon, I wonder if he too can download. And if he can, will he first compress into a Baltar-tarball?
there is reason to suspect baltar isn't a cylon...mainly the subplot about him and six having a child. However, there is no reason he isn't a cylon. Caliak, your reasons are good ones, until they threw the curveball at us: The cylons don't talk about the other 5 human models. When Baltar asked them if they'd know them as cylons by sight...caprica six didnt' answer.

So, it's possible that there are 5 cylon models that the cylons aren't so sure about. They're either rogue models, or ones that split from the rest of them over some issue (like the human genocide).

I think I'd prefer it if Baltar was human, as it makes him a more interesting character.

Centurions, I agree, are inorganic. I think they're "limited" AI's, probably slightly upgraded versions of the original cylons. Now, I think it would be neat to have a few flashbacks or so from Admiral Adama's point of view of the original Cylon War. You know, what started it, what the cylons were like before and during the war, that sort of thing.

Base stars are organic, they're cylon stock, and the Hybrid is a organic humanoid that's spliced into them as a way for the other humanoids to control it. I.e. it's a "pilot" akin to farscape's.

As for the 12 model bit: in series we only have a cylon's word for it. However the writers and creators have officially stated that there are, and will be, only 12 humanoid cylons.

If Baltar was as famous on the colonies as he seems to be (a celebrity scientist like Einstein or Hawking) then many people would know about his early life and upbringing. It would be hard for him to just show up out of the blue as an adult with no background--you need credentials and a past body of work to be a scientist.

Sharon got away with it by claiming to be (and indeed believing she was) from a colony partially destroyed in some disaster. As a young woman she would have little problem joining the military with no background history. As long as she was healthy, intelligent and dedicated she would get in.

moved from thread sorry for mispost..

This has got to be my most favorite sci fi of late.
I think they do a good job of representing future tech. and science realism. Here is my question. In the recent episode where the BSG jumped into the atmosphere at 150,00 ft or so and fell to the surface launching vipers right before jumping out at about 1000 ft, the ship was engulfed in flames as if in re-entry. An awesome scene to be sure, but would a ship that is the size of a couple of aircraft carriers falling at terminal velocity from that altitude "passing through 99,000 and falling like a rock" produce flames etc. as portrayed?

                            www.watchnasatv.com

                          ONE PERCENT FOR NASA!

I didn't think they were at terminal velocity...but if they were, then the flames shouldn't be there. Otherwise, it's just like a shuttle re-entry (except they started re-entry halfway through the atmosphere due to the jump).

--------------------SaiphMOD@gmail.com -------------------

"This is my Timey Wimey Detector. Goes "bing" when there's stuff. It also fries eggs at 30 paces, wether you want it to or not actually. I've learned to stay away from hens: It's not pretty when they blow" -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

thanks for the feed back....love that scene,
I have to agree with you anvel, on the new episode and the X-files "what was all that about"...lol.
I would have liked the Ros answer "no genocide" better than the whole sabotage set up. Though a different approach altogether would have been best. uh....like the star trek solution...(the cylons put a bio-filter on the resurection ship....BSG kills the hostages...let it hang, describe the filter, and what happend that day, in later episode cylon perspective [baltar forced to help protect them].)

Oh!
