Yes, but the flash, where did it come from?
In the event of a full scale nuclear war or NEO impact event, there are two categories of underground shelters available to the public, distinguished by depth underground: bunkers and graves...

oh my gosh... *bangs head on table*
i can't believe this actually happening. you're giving us teenagers a bad name here.
To all who happen to read this, don't lump me with him...

Giving teenager a bad name, i am just being the devils advocate, crazyeddie on the other hand gives humanity a bad name, we'd better hope he is the first person aliens meet, or we will be doomed.
In the event of a full scale nuclear war or NEO impact event, there are two categories of underground shelters available to the public, distinguished by depth underground: bunkers and graves...

VoteforNimitz,
Funny. I thought that in the American schools (and I never went to an American school, my knowledge is from your TV series), smartasses like you are beat up daily by the schools bully. You told us that you behave at school as arrogantly as you do here. How are you still alive, and how do you afford all the underwear torn by the wedgies?

arit

"We will either find a way, or make one!" - Hannibal

man, no one gets beat up at school. I've never seen it happen. he may get punched a few times, but it's no full fledged bullying...

Well Arit, I have had the same thoughts, a guy like Nimitz would not have survived in the school I went to. It might not have happened at school, but school only lasts a few hours a day.

"You demonstrate your ignorance of physics. This was not a chemical explosion, like lighting a firecracker. This was a kinetic explosion, where the energy of motion was instantly converted into heat. The force of the explosion was equivalent to that produced by detonating over 4 tons of TNT, but there was nothing chemical about it".

Kinetik explosion? A bump is not an explosion.

This is art (explosion of beauty):
http://www.webcolombia.com/michelangelo/Michelangelo_The_Creation_of_Man_1.jpg

This is manure (bump in the stomach):
http://www.ibiblio.org/wm/paint/auth/pollock/fathom-five/pollock.fathom-five.jpg

bigbrain - Kinetik explosion? A bump is not an explosion.

If the velocity of impact is fast enough, a "bump" can result in an explosion. Ask Hiroshima.
I put on my robe and wizard hat...

The equation for kinetic energy is:

E = 0.5 MV squared

You can rack up some very impressive numbers very quickly with hypervelocity impacts and quite modest masses.

Jon

Whether we become a multi-planet species with unlimited horizons, or are forever confined to Earth will be decided in the twenty-first century amid the vast plains, rugged canyons and lofty mountains of Mars Arthur Clarke

Do you want to convince me with your calculations?

Calculations are no use if you have not understood the problem.

A biggest bump can not cause the same flash produced with an explosion.

Have you seen any videos here:
http://www.flyingcirkus.com/forum/photo.aspx?photoid=2313

Those guys are very skilful. They do incredible manoeuvers at slow speed. Too amazing.

But the engine is on the top like an helicopter and the air that is pushed below hits the mobile surfaces of the plane and the skilful pilot can keep it in hovering.

Instead lunar module was thrusted from the bottom, no air could hit possible mobile sufaces and, above all, the pilot was seated inside and could not realize vertical position.
