Yay. <br />Posted by rybanis</DIV></p><p>I understand told that the Russian Soyuz booster strap ons are not bolted on at all. The weight of the vehicle on the pad keeps the forward pin in a a grove. During the boost the strap ons thrusting keep the pin in the grove. When the strapons burn out the simply fall away. No explosive bolts or any high tech sep system at all. (The rocket was designed as a ICBM in the late 1950's and is used today as their manned booster for the Soyuz spacecraft.)</p> <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> </div>
